Like most home workshop owners I have to turn my hand to a lot of things; metalworking, woodworking, plumbing and general repairs, etc. I’ve had about four cheap vacs for the workshop, all of which died quite quickly. Had this for two months now and I can’t fault it. High powered suction, will do anything from cleaning the land rover to sucking up oil, water, metal filings and swarf from the lathe, sawdust, general dirt, you name it, if it will go up the pipe this thing will swallow it. (Including small spanners, so be careful!). As a shop vac it is the best that I’ve had. Not the cheapest, but with Karcher you really get what you pay for. Highly reccomended!

 

This thing is amazing! It’s reaches spots that a dustpan and brush never could and inhales it for pure convenience. It’s highly durable as well – the uses are endless from sucking up water (yes really) to tidying up loose grass cuttings or reaching into the flowerbed and sucking up those dead rose petals!

Once it’s full you just plonk the contents in the garden bin! It’s great for indoor use and cars as well. No need for a bag and it’s easy to clean too.

This product will really help you out no end!!!

 

Highly recommend, great vacuum and very handy if u have a leak or spillage to clean up. Large bag so lasts for a long time.

 

i was looking for a good vacuum cleaner with enough suction power to remove dog hairs from a large fluffy rug, and this popped up on a long list of well known cylinder cleaners and the first thing that came to mind was that if its a karcher then its got to be good, the specs looked good and the price is great..it is very light (not like some vacuum cleaners) despite its size so can easily be lifted when necessary, brilliant suction, sturdy body, comes with a long hose and two pipes, a small crevice tool and two easy to change heads, one with normal bristles the other is rubber..replacement or extra accessories are cheap enough too unlike some..its not just for guys to use outside in their cave but is great for wood floors and low pile carpets inside..beware of hoovering near curtains or low hanging drapes as this vacuum doesn’t know the difference.. im more than pleased i bought this and it has earned a special place in my family.
#EDIT..the long straight pipe of vacuum cleaner actually cracked with very little pressure used at all and a piece broke off leaving sharp edges so i had to bodge it with tape until i get round to getting a replacement pipe..it’s still a great purchase even with this mishap..

I used it for the first time and I was not disappointed . We have a German Shepherd dog so plenty of hair , it made light work when cleaning the car . We’ll chuffed .

 

Seems well made, moves around easily, can be used on normal dust and dirt with filter bags which are easily available. Can also suck up larger debris and spills without the
filter bag. Good for garage, garden and car.

 

Bought this vacuum particularly to clear up pine needles off a block paved area. Used it twice since buying it and it is absolutely brilliant. Even when the paving was damp from previous rainfall this vacuum sucked up the pine needles with ease. The suction power is fantastic, actually thought I was in danger of lifting the blocks out of the ground at one point!!

This vacuum cleaner was bought for hoovering patio and drive. The dust bag is large so holds a lot of sticks, stones and debris. Suction is good for this job. Also used to suck up water. Take the dust bag out and off you go. Very easy and versatile to use. Very pleased with purchase.

 

 

Had spent a bit of time pondering getting this but on first use, worth every penny. Lightweight and straight forward to use.

I’ve been looking for something to hoover up leaves on my artificial lawn for ages. My neighbour has a huge willow tree which drops endless leaves on our side of the garden. It’s beautiful but probably the messiest tree you could get as it sheds leaves all year round! I’ve been able to suck up every leaf with the WD4! And all the other bits the tree has deposited over the years! Originally thought of getting a lawn push sweeper but so glad I got the hoover! It gets the job done properly whereas brushing probably won’t get rid of smaller bits.
The wd4 basically is like any other hoover but one tough enough for outdoors. I was worried about covering such a large area with a hoover and standard sized tools but it was fine and took me about half an hour to hoover properly. The suction is just right. It can suck up small stones if you want it to, but can suck up leaves from flower beds too without taking the flower bed with it.
I don’t think it would work quite as well if you have large leaves to hoover, but works a treat for willow droppings. It won’t be able to suck up the willow branch droppings later in the year but those will have to be picked up by hand.
The 20litre capacity is more than enough – after half an hour or so it was only half full, easy to empty (I don’t use a bag for the garden). It’s easy to roll around thanks to swivel castors. The tools are sturdy and good quality, although a bit loose at times where they interconnect. Wish it had a retractable plug cable as someone else said. This one doesn’t have a blower function, would be handy but why blow when you can hoover! The filter is easy to access and empty. My only problem was putting the clips on the side to begin with – it simply didn’t look like it would fit, and think the plastic had bent a little on delivery. After several attempts though managed to get clips on fine.
Have also been able to hoover up the patio and other bits Ive always wanted to clean up but was too scared to do with just a dustpan and brush for tackling cobwebs etc! Haven’t tried hoovering wet, but it serves my needs and am sure will be handy for the car, hoovering spills etc! Highly recommend!

Effective, well-made product but a lot more expensive than the LIDL equivalent it replaced. If it lasts as long as the LIDL one I’ll give it 5 stars but for now, a 4 star rating

 

Got this on sale and it’s excellent for the price I paid, not sure if it would be worth it for the full price though. Great suction but you have to factor in that you’ll need extra bags and that can be costly.

 

I don’t know what thickness and sheerness are supposed to refer to, but my goodness this is what every vacuum cleaner should be like.

It sucks up dirt incredibly well, and my carpets have never been this clean.

It’s also cheaper than Dysons.

Seriously, if your priority is actually vacuuming up dirt etc, get this.

It is a bit noisy and bulky though.

Wanted a hoover which would be able to pickup all types of rubbish. This is used for hoovering car, decking and garage floor and it does an amazing job. All the tools it comes with fit nicely into allocated slots on the main body. It is easy to maneuver around and comes with a decent length cable. Have used to hoover up saw dust in garage and on decking as well as the car. I have not yet tried the wet function, but sure it will do it with ease. It is a Karcher after all.

If you want a good hoover for car, workshop, decorating, i would recommend this hoover.

 

Very useful for the garden, especially for artificial lawns. It’s a bit unstable when dragging it across the lawn and it easily tips over, which displaces the bag and tubes. When this happens, you can hear the suction become somewhat disjointed. To fix it, you have to switch it off, open up the top, move the bag a bit and it will start up again. A little annoying, to be honest.

The suction is pretty strong, but the tubes clog up quite easily. For small lawns this isn’t much of an issue. But I guess for bigger lawns, this can become tiresome.

Sweeping through the smooth angles of the grass is easy, but struggles when brushing against the bristles.

Storage is easy and compact.

For the price, it’s ok, and does the job if you don’t have a big lawn. For bigger lawns and gardens, probably better to get a bigger vacuum and stronger suction, which likely means spending double. You get what you pay for, as they say.

 

Appears to do the job, but very surprised to find that although this is supposed to handle liquids and one assumes also outdoor use, the plug, whilst having a UK 3 pin plug, it has no earth (the mains lead is 2 core only). This was discovered when I needed to change the plug out for a European type. Surely this is an unsafe design.

The attachments are plastic and do not appear to be very robust, but with a 24 month guarantee one further assumes Karcher will replace those that do not last the time.

Otherwise impressed with suction power (blowing power I estimate is 50% of suction), not too noisy and lightweight/- easily maneuvered and with 5 wheels it is very stable.

You know what you get with a Karcher and this is no exception: rock solid build quality, very powerful and industrial feel for a home user, and not a bad price either.

We were up and running in no time at all (no setup at all really). It has taken up a lot of dust from carpets after another (bagless) vacuum cleaner had been over it. Very impressive. OK, so it is not as eye pleasing as some other brands but it does the job really well.

Perfect for house, car, garage.

Delivered by a courier and signed for this came as is in the original Karcher box no Amazon packaging present .

Inside the box is the base unit the hose , a filter and some dry vacuum bags , along with a smaller adapted solid hose attachment.

I will only be using this as a dry vacuum and this review is based on my observations while using it .

There are 2 main good points with this Vacuum , the size of the container which can hold 25 litres of dust or fluid , and the filter system .

Because of the 1100 watt motor the suction power of this Karcher is quite astounding .

We have just finished renovating upstairs in our old Victorian property and there was a lot of excess plaster dust left on the floors .
The Karcher made very light work of that ! And unlike my Dyson the filter captured everything so no blow back dust which is a definite bonus .

The hose is long enough to deal with most areas with the exception of the highest ceilings .

I love Karcher it’s products to me scream quality in their build as well as their use . I’m very happy to recommend this WD5 wet and dry Vacuum .

 

KARCHER WD5

This is a beast of a vacuum – a really powerful 1.1 kW motor, and a large container make it suitable for the toughest of cleaning tasks. Despite that, it’s not actually hugely loud at 75db.

It’s not designed to clean up ashes (there is a flame resistant version specifically designed for that) but I found it more than up to the task when sweeping my grate (see video clip) which had been fully cold at the time of cleaning. I found that a tiny puff of grey ash escaped the filter bag into the interior of the vacuum, but thanks to the secondary filter, nothing made it out of the vacuum into the room.

There is a good quality floor sweeping attachment which has brushes and extendable flaps to allow cleaning of smooth surfaces – e.g. sucking up spilled liquids.

The vacuum can work with or without a filter bag. For dusty tasks (sanding wood, plaster, cleaning carpets etc) a filter bag is probably recommended. For heavier tasks – sweeping sand, small leaves, gravel, and obviously when vacuuming water – cleaning without a bag is probably best. The dirt collects straight into the base, and the secondary filter sited at the top of the vacuum prevents anything from escaping.

It’s a great general purpose vacuum for garage, workshop or garden. It wheels about fine on its 5 castors – the 5th at the front prevents it from tipping over when being pulled by the hose.

There is a clever reverse-air feature which allows air to be blown back through the filter in order to clean it. There is also a secondary port which can be used for blowing air – not that I see myself using that feature very often.

The only thing I can find to criticise about the vacuum is that the hose is only 2m long. It would have been really nice to supply a slightly longer hose, especially when using it to clean the interior of a car. As long as you pull the vacuum around the car (which is very easy given its mobility) that’s not a major limitation. Hose extensions are available, but they can be a little pricey.

If you plan to use this with power tools, you might consider getting the WD5 P – which has a built-in power socket that will synchronise the vacuum with your power tool. That said – this one works just fine, but you need to switch it on and off manually on the body of the vacuum.

It feels incredibly robust and built to last. It has a stout carrying handle which doubles as a lock for the lid, and a functional accessory rack a the rear which makes it compact to store, too.

Overall, I have to say that despite the length of the hose, this is a very functional machine, and perfect for those jobs where you don’t want to fill up endless filter bags in your domestic vacuum, or where you need to clear water from a flooded bathroom floor, the pump housing of a dishwasher, or a blocked drain.

I think it’s great value for money when you compare it to some of the more trendy vacuum cleaner brands.
