I got this game when I was 38. I bought it for my daughter. Then had to get it for myself. I love it. It’s so cosy. No more insomnia terrified of the scorpion though ha great community on social media. Great for mental health breaks. Honestly never saw myself as someone playing games like this but it’s very enjoyable. I highly recommend it. My own mental health has gone next level from playing just from the calm zen like state you get in as an adult. I play with my children too we all help each other out. For children it’s brilliant at layering tasks getting rewards and teaching patience and if not then there’s fishing and bug hunting and island hopping.

If you’re stressed. Need a distraction. Have insomnia. Feel bereaved. Feel depressed. Post natal depression. Lonely. There’s the most supportive, inclusive community waiting that you can be involved as much or as little as you want and you will never ever have a lonely birthday ever again!

I was happy to be able to gift this to my sister and help her relax more with this game. I heard that the games purpose was to aid in relaxation and act as a therapeutic alternative. It has really helped her focus on just the game and enjoy the building, meeting people, and gardening.

Had this game years ago for the kiddies and both the wife and I ended up staying up half of most nights playing it. We’ve had it on every game system that we’ve had and this new improved version both my daughter and my wife are totally addicted to and I even bought my wife a nintendo switch to play it on.
The game is slow moving but with patience you can get a huge amount of personal satisfaction building stuff and recreating yourself as a role play character which removes you from your day to day stressful reality. GREAT STRESS BUSTER.

I used to have a version of this game on the Nintendo Wii years ago. Now it’s on the Switch. Very easy to play and HOURS of fun. Worth every penny!

It’s quite fun for like the first few months but then it gets quite boring after years of having it I very rarely see myself going to this game as it’s just an island decor game

Its been a year or so since I’ve bought this game and I haven’t put it down since. Probably one of the better animal crossings from the series and there’s a lot of creativity that you can put into your island. Would recommend, great for kids, teens and adults.

I love the aesthetics of this game so much – it’s a nice game to sit and chill with, customise your home and find new things around the island

There are some details i noticed like characters getting mad when i hit them with the net – which was pleasantly surprising and funny, but amazing that they paid attention to detail to that

The only thing, literally the only thing, is it does get confusing and tedious sometimes. They expect you to get 30 IRON NUGGETS for the shop – which is a bit much for a new player

Other than that, nothing to say, this game is super cute and fun. I get the hype now

    5.0 out of 5 stars L o v e i t !!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersOK, so I’ve been waiting for agesss for the price to go down for a brand new sealed copy, ever since it first released, but it’s clearly still so very popular that the price doesn’t look as though it’ll reduce anytime soon.

And now I have this game I can see why it’s so adored by children, teens and adults of all ages. It’s exceptionally cute with some goofy little quips like, “I caught an olive flounder fish. That’s not the pits!”. LOL!

I’ve only been playing it for five days but I’m already loving it. Why do I love it? Well, let’s be honest, adulting can be quite stressful at times, and for the last month I’ve had a few health issues so I’ve been very stressed out and anxious, but this cute little game allows me to forget about real-life and escape to somewhere else, which has really helped to chill me out.

It’s not a game that you can finish quickly as it’s designed to be a daily progressive game, which is great because it means I’ll be able to play it for a few years.

Top tip: The game runs in real-time according to your timezone if you have the time synced with the internet. Turn off the internet time sync so you change the date and time on your switch console to the next day. This way, you can speed the daily progression along and get more done in each gaming session.
Once you’ve unlocked and achieved all you can for that day, set the date for the next day. I’ve also noticed that the days new tasks seem to refresh at 5AM. Hope this helps new players!

5.0 out of 5 stars I get the hype now...

This is such a nostalgic game, easy to play and get the hang of. However, terraforming is horrible as you can only edit one “block” at a time which makes changes take forever to the island. Other than that 10/10

I understand it’s pricey however for me it’s worth it. I love games especially cozy games however I am terrible at playing games (or even using technology!) which has been frustrating as an teenager so I was a bit scared in invest in this game in case I couldn’t play it or didn’t like it but finally I decided to get it after years of putting it off to but it and iv been missing out! This game is stunning and it doesn’t pressure you and lets you do tasks in your own time. The gameplay is easy but super hooking and overall I recommend if you just want to curl up and play an relaxing game during the holidays ! Also I recommend buying it on here as an physical copy as its 10 quid more for the digital version (plus the case on the physical version is cute !)

I got this as one of a few Christmas gift’s for my girlfriend, as she already plays Stardew Valley.

Every aspect of the game is amazingly polished, making for a cohesive and cosy experience.

If cute and cuddly is your style then you will love this.

It’s worth noting that the physical version of the game (the one with the cartridge) can’t be shared with a friend simultaneously. Unlike the digital edition which can be played by 2 people at once with only one copy (due to game sharing). So if you want to play the game together with someone, get the digital version (and game share) to avoid extra cost.
I bought the physical version as I thought it was a better present (rather than giving her a digital voucher on a piece of card).

Overall great game, will buy again!

I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend, who doesn’t play many games but has loved the Sims for years. I thought the combination of house decorating and cute characters would suit her and it turns out I was right. What I didn’t expect was how much time I would put into the game myself. It’s utterly charming and a very relaxing way to put down a little time.

I’ve never played a game like it and, to be honest, it’s difficult to put into words exactly what makes it so enjoyable. It might even be a victory of style over substance, as the primary gameplay loop is pretty much totally perfunctory. The secondary loop isn’t much better, with a list of menial tasks that can be completed each day. The tertiary loop is what draws you in though, with long-term goals that lead to visible progression on your little virtual island. What makes all of that worthwhile though is the cheerful, relaxing atmosphere. From the music and other sound effets to the NPCs to the nature of the tasks to be completed, it all creates an idyllic little escape from reality. That so many things in the game have baked in waiting times is genius in that there is never any urgency in anything that happens in the game.

That said, the game is not perfect. As much as it is positive that some things only advance or reset in the real-world next day, there are tactics used to try and make the game not only something you play for a little while but something you play for a little while each and every day. I think without these incentives for “logging in” each day I would still choose to play most days and as things are currently there are times I question whether I’m playing because I want to or because I feel I have to. It also makes it feel like you are being punished for having real world plans on the days you don’t log in.

One other major gripe is the fact that some options are only available to the island representative, the first player to start the game and my girlfriend in my case. Bizarrely, this role cannot be passed on to another player. Nintendo recommends starting a new game on a different Switch console to get access to those options, which is crazy. Not sure if this is a technical limitation or bare-faced greed, but it’s a terrible implementation either way.

There are further problems when attempting to play co-op. One player is the main player with all their usual abilities in that case, while the other is essentially just their assistant, without being able to interact with many things or pick up items while also being forced to follow the main player. We tried playing the game like that for a while at first but soon decided to take turns logging in instead.

I understand I’ve dwelled somewhat on the negatives here as they are unfortunately easy to identify while explaining why the game is so pleasant and easygoing to play for a little while is much more difficult, but it’s an easy recommend for anyone who likes the sound of the premise. We’ve reached the credits, but there still seems to be so much more to do on our island and there are still new features being unlocked as we play. It’s a great little escape.

I have been an animal crossing fan for around 15 years and of course wanted to follow the franchise when it came to the Nintendo switch. I absolutely love how Nintendo has transformed this game from what it once was in my childhood. New horizons not only has some great new additions such as diving for sea creatures but has also kept many of the much loved characters and peaceful coastal settings that make me feel like I’m 7 again hiding under my blanket on my white DS lite on a school night. I thoroughly recommend!!

This is a great game for kids of any age. I have seen a eight year old and a 25 year old play it and love it. A better version of sims in the day. Build your own place on your own island and do tasks to collect and earn currencies and build up your house and visit other peoples houses and island. Play with friends as well so it can be sociable as well. Kids learn to earn things. They learn patience and can design their own island, house and even their clothes. They also can collect loads of things. Like fish and all the different varieties. But you have to make a Rod first and nothing is easy. I like this game for all those reasons.

This is one of the most refreshing experiences in gaming. The graphics are cute and colourful and the whole atmosphere is relaxing. The characters are lovable. You basically go through the process of building an island from scratch and have various tasks that need to be carried out daily. It’s grindy but addictive and a social simulator.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is one of those strange little oddities that sucks you in and keeps you coming back every day to maintain your crops and get your daily Nook Miles.

You can never really put your finger on why you enjoy it. It could easily become a bit of a chore. But it feels so cutesy and charming (although I will admit I got a somewhat sinister feeling from Tom Nook at the beginning of the game – he turned out to be an alright guy though) and it offers such a relaxing experience that the work feels less of a chore and more something you look forward to doing every day.

There’s something really satisfying about building your island from scratch and turning it into your own little town. Even better that you can show it off to your friends and visit their creations with relative ease.

The only issue I have with the game is I can only have one island on my Switch, meaning I have to share the island with my daughter which can cause a few headaches as our ideas sometimes clash. It’s a small niggle though.

A ton of fun and highly recommended for anyone that’s feeling the stresses of the real world and wants to escape somewhere relaxing.

I haven’t been obsessed with a video game since Mario on the NES in 1986. I’m now 40 years old and unashamedly hooked.

This game is beautiful, achievable, calming and joyous. It’s impossible to get it wrong, just many, many ways to get it right. My daughter and I love running around our island, shaking trees, catching fish and chatting to our bizarre range of neighbours. It’s the perfect antidote to lockdown.

My top tip is to get yourself a wetsuit as quick as you can and get diving. It’s by far the quickest way to earn bells. I tend to empty my pockets on the shore so I’ve got plenty of space, and do a full circumnavigation of the island before selling it all in the shop. The harder they are to catch the more they are worth – king crabs are a challenge but sell for something like 8000 bells each, so be persistent!

My other top tip is to expand your pockets as soon as you are able by redeeming miles for the pocket organisation guide at the Nook Stop. It’s expensive but makes you far more efficient and means you can get more stuck in without having to keep returning to the shop to sell the contents of your pockets.

I have seen some criticism that it’s not good for multiple players. It’s true that playing at the same time is pretty rubbish – only one of you can be the leader and the other one just has to follow behind looking interested. But if you go in as separate profiles and play at different times the second player can do nearly everything the main player can, including building and upgrading their home, gathering and selling resources, and using the Island Designer app.

If you have a Switch, get this game. You won’t regret it, although it may eat up all your spare time… Having said that, at the moment we can’t go out anyway so there’s nothing to lose!

Brilliant game for all ages – our 7 and 9 year olds and ourselves all love it.
Massive down side is only being able to have one island and the first player to have played being the main player throughout – only once they have unlocked items and made decisions do the other player benefit.
Despite that we all still really enjoy it, but all players should have equal capabilities and play options.
There is always so much to do, discover, explore and enjoy ….. so detailed, amazing graphics – good problem solving and strategising opportunities for children as well as being great fun.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWould have given it a 5, but my wife was playing this one time and it got rid of all the iron ores she collected. She had 45 and needed 50 to make an object for her house. However, trying to open the game and get the last 5 ores for the object for her house, she was shocked and startled to find most ores had disappeared. Her face said it all as she was in tears. Since then it has never been the same, the anguish and trauma from that moment set in slowly. It is day 73 and she has barely played it anymore, weed has ravished her island, her friends have left, pirates and others have taken over her island and still she sits in total pain of what the game has done to her. Truly devastated from the trauma she has now quit her job and now wallows everyday blaming her evil husband and how he was the root cause of it all. HELP

By coincidence, I ordered this in time for it to arrive on the first day of the new lockdown. It’s been almost two weeks now and I’ve played it for at least two hours a day.

I play a lot of The Sims so I’m used to a slow pace of game play, and the grind to make money and unlock new items. Admittedly I can spend ages on here collecting wood and making furniture to sell, swimming and hunting for sea creatures to sell, hunting for shells to sell… you get the idea. I seem to unlock something new or meet a new character every couple of days, as well upgrading buildings and so on. I love waking up each day to see what’s happened on my island overnight.

I find the gameplay so peaceful as well. Not only does the game look so beautiful and appealing, but all the sound effects – from your villagers “talking” to you, to the sound of footsteps and the sea – are so calming and relaxing to me too.

The fact that you can connect with friends is a big plus for me too, especially at a time when you can’t spend time with your loved ones. My best friend (I’m 31 and she’s 30!) recieved a copy for Christmas too, so she’s around ten days ahead of me and can give me tips and clues to what’s up and coming on my island. I love being able to visit each other’s islands in real time, and that we can send each other nice gifts and things we find on our islands. I daresay we’ll both put an awful lot more time into our games. 🙂

Proving to be a real lockdown gem.
