Lego have produced another classic model. This is aimed at adults not children and is quite fiddly. Requires patience but is well worth the effort when finished. It is worth the cost when you see how much work has gone into creating this set.

I had one lego piece missing from the side ladder but was replaced free of charge from the lego website and arrived in a few days.
The Lego Landrover Defener is a great set. Lots of features and great looks. It is so good that I bought two just so that I could build an alternative model without having to dismantle the original. I had over nine hours of fun building the Defender and just over seven hours to build the alternative. I couldn’t recommend Lego highly enough for any age group.
A tricky build, really had to pay attention to the instructions or constructions, as my nephew calls them. Not for novices but a great build.
After initial issue, and research online, car is running great. I’d like to withdraw my previous slightly negative comment as issue was on our side!
My grandson (age 16) has enjoyed making this model. He recently had Covid and was pleased to have something relaxing and absorbing to make while he was isolating.
Got it for my 69 birthday took me about 12 hours really enjoyed it very good instructions the only problem is some bits of assembly needed a lot of strength also it is normal to have some small parts left over

My Son loves it! It goes everywhere with him! There is a known issue with the gearbox, but not a deal breaker. Very technical, but my 9yr old had no issue building it.
First time I bought lego since I was a kid. Enjoyable experience with my first purchase of technical lego. Lots of time and work involved but really enjoying putting this set together and only half built so fat. makes a change from watching Netflix in the evening !!
Absolutely amazing! Brought for Husband for his 39th birthday. Best price I found it. Took us 10 hrs to complete, but all the moving parts inside were incredible. Aloft bigger then I was expecting as didn’t even check the size before hand. Now takes pride of place in our front room on display for all to see. Husband shows any guests we have when they come in!! Needless to say 1 VERY happy Husband!

During the pandemic, I’ve found myself less and less interested in the standard evening things like TV and PlayStation. I go out on my bike a lot and go for walks and so on, but I was looking for something that would be stimulating, would help pass the time, and would be therapeutic in a way.
This kit is awesome! It’s complex enough that you have to concentrate to avoid going back and checking what you’ve done every 10 minutes, but not so much that it feels like a chore. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The manual is easy enough to follow and the end result looks incredible. Go buy it!
TIP: I took the advice of a guy on YouTube and purchased a set of coloured plastic bowls on here from Ikea – it meant I could separate out the components from the manual for Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, etc., and work on them a bit at a time. Really cool idea!
Like everything quality value sturdiness the wheels look great with real rubber tyres . A real miniature of the real vehicle love it . Packaging superb and delivery fast with prime . Perfect interesting present .

This is a great lego technic kit, the only reason i did’nt give it 5 stars is. Because i had parts missing from the interior mainly the seats. Apart from that it was great.

This is a massive kit, I got it on offer, I think over 2700 parts and it’s big, but it over a few nights, basically doing it in sections. It is quite technical in some areas.
It brilliant with all work with gears also oversized lego as bigger assembly. Someone who created this lego land rover it so clever design so well done.
This was an extra special surprise gift for our 14 yo boy. It comes in a huge box, highly impressive, over 2,000 pieces and took him 9-10 days of 2 hour sessions, so approx 20 hours build time.
Looks impressive at all stages of the build and nearly as tough as the original defender it’s modelled against.
Over a foot long and 8 inches high when finished.
Truly remarkable model and, for the complexity and number of pieces, good value too. Not an easy build in that some smaller gears are harder to identify – err towards the smallest gear when putting the gearbox and transfer case together.
Deeply impressive transmission system wrapped in a good likeness of a new Defender. Clever assembly system does allow you to build it and remove the panels later to review the mechanism and suspension.
Actually easy to push around and “drive” so younger kids can explore it even if the build is considered beyond their skills. It’s Lego – what kids might find hard is the time and patience needed.
Mine was missing four pieces – so one mirror can’t be fitted yet and the bonnet has a black bit instead of green. But it’s Lego and a Land Rover. I’m calling it character until I get the missing bits.
Hefty and just really impressive when built, if you choose just one lego Technic car to make this year, make it this one.
Our grandson is self isolating due to COVID preventing him from returning to the Army in Cyprus. This was purchased to keep him focused. What an amazing couple of days he spent assembling this. It is a brilliant piece of engineering and has prompted him to look at transferring into an engineering role in the Army.

As a fairly new Lego builder this was something else. I thought I might build it in a week – no chance.
You really need a system in place to build these things, or be prepared to order new parts when they go missing.
The gears were a little bit notchy at first but when everything was in place I gave it a light coating of lube and everything is good.

This is an incredible piece of kit. The detail, the gears, the design is just amazing. There hasn’t been a single part that I have put together where I haven’t sat back and gone “Oh wow, that is clever!” One warning, of a sort, it isn’t a quick build. I think I spent nearly 12 hours on it all in but the process is hugely enjoyable. It’s big too.
Bought this as a 19 year old who wanted to feel some childhood again. It did the trick definitely, must buy.

Being a big Lego fan I saw this and just had to get it. The build was fun and the end product is as expected a quality robust design of the defender. The price was excellent, so would recommend to anyone considering buying this.

This is an impressive kit, the attention to detail is astonishing. It all reflects quite accurately how it works in real life (with some simplifications of course) but the steering, the transmission, the 6 cylinder engine (with moving pistons) are really a delight to put together and watch them working. It was really fun to assemble and I have it as a display piece now. It was assembled in a weekend, so considering the price it doesn’t guarantee too many hours of entertainment, but I guess the price includes the design (which is definitely impressive) and the resulting piece. Great gift for Lego lovers.
Great set! A complicated build which needs regular checking throughout, to ensure all the mechanisms are running correctly and smoothly.
Most of the complicated engineering is hidden once built sadly (a bit like the GT3RS set) but it’s fantastic all the same.

THIS IS A GOOD ITEM TO GET YOUR BRAIN THINKING AND IT IS QUITE COMPLICATED, HOWEVER ITEMS INSIDE BOX COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IDENTIFIED.
Before getting my hands on this set i was thinking it’s a bit expensive for Lego. When it arrived and realised how big it was and how many parts were involved i completely changed my mind. I have not finished putting it together but i am really enjoying the process and there is no rush to complete it. I am now thinking i would like more Lego Technic like this and will keep an eye out for future models to build. Further to this i would also say that while putting it together i have actually gained an appreciation for how well it is designed.

Well worth the money! Day 2 and it’s going to take a while to finish this 2000+ piece set, it’s amazing just like building a real vehicle I’m working on the gear box at the minute, can’t say enough it’s brilliant…

My only moan is: Why in the photographs released by Lego always show men building the cars? I have built the Aston Martin DB5, Ford Mustang, London Bus, Audi Quatro and the Ducati, all have men building them… 😉 Women own these items too.
I am relatively new to technical Lego, however for me it has been a real benefit during lockdown. This is the 3rd model I have made, the last one was the Bugatti which was far more challenging, however I throughly enjoyed making the Defender, and I think it looks better made than the pics portray.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas to give him something to do during lockdown. He absolutely loves it and is still working on it now! There are thousands of small parts so you need a lot of patience but he is really enjoying making it. I’m going to buy him another for his birthday. Expensive but money well spent.
I thought this was quite expensive but decided to buy it as it’s a collectors item. I realised that the expense is due to the R and D for this as it’s very involved but enjoyable to build. I think perhaps it may be a more pleasing model if it didn’t have so much attention given to it having low and high ratios and all of the gear systems, and had included a motor with the smart phone control system instead. In practice, after it’s built you don’t tend to work the gear systems as you would have to be physically pushing it around!. Nevertheless, a pleasing model to make and worth hanging onto for a while as it may go up in value!

Wow! This kit has four sections split between lots of numbered bags! It comes with a huge book to help put everything together. It took about 10 hours to produce a fantastic vehicle with doors and bonnet that open. Roof cases which open. There is a winch at the front that works! It really is a great looking land rover! It is easier to spend s bit of time sorting the parts into colours per section.
Bought for my son in the UK while in lockdown. Has found it challenging and enjoyable and helps pass the time.
I haven’t make a lego kit for many decades (since I was ten). This was brilliant. I bought it because I am thinking of buying the real car. Lego is such a great quality product. All the part fit perfectly. There is a great video on YouTube of the guy who designed it at Lego. A huge amount thinking has gone into designing this build, with all the gears working. You have to really concentrate at every stage. One misplaced component and you will find yourself having to dismantle a things a whole lot later to fix a previous small mistake. But that is the challenge of it. The end product looks great and got lots of admiring comments from friends I didn’t think would be remotely interested in such a thing. Very satisfying. I bought a light kit to go with it, that made it even better.
Purchased for my son’s 17th Birthday. He’s a JLR apprentice and loves lego and everything motor related so I knew he’d love it. It certainly got him off his XBox for the 3 days it took him to build. Kept him entertained during Covid 19 lockdown. Highly recommended. Only slight issue was there were 3 missing pieces which he was able to order online, although I’ve since seen we could’ve contacted the seller/lego to order these. Luckily he was still able to continue the build whilst he awaits the arrival and can add these parts later.
Bought this due to COVID-19 boredom and wasn’t disappointed. The last time I played with Lego was about 55 years ago and couldn’t resist this. It took a fair few hours to build and loved every second of it, in fact I’ve bought more Technic Lego since. It was a tiny bit fiddly in places but if you stick to the unbelievably detailed manual, you can’t go wrong.
I was a bit concerned it would look more Lego than Landrover but once built, it totally looks like a Landrover. Looking forward to backwards building it so I can build it again!
This is an epic build. Bought for my 7 year old son, he managed to build it in 4 days with very little help.
The quality of Lego is undeniable.

Build was great fun, with very clear step by step and comprehensive instructions.
Unfortunately my set had 1 piece missing but this was quickly rectified by Lego (quick service even during these lockdown times).
Received gift vouchers for Christmas that equalled the cost of this, so what else could I do but buy it? Kept me busy for about a dozen hours over the evenings of a week. Amazing detail and construction, even if it’s not exactly a true likeness of the real thing. Ideally you need a large building area plus a handful of bowls into which the parts from each stage of the build can be tipped into, and a lot of patience! (and no kids or pets to hide or eat any of the pieces). Extremely rewarding to reach the conclusion and have a complete working model – doors open, steering works, gearbox works with 4 speeds and 2 ranges, plus reverse and neutral. Kit is for left-hand drive but apparently by mirroring the build, you can end up with an RHD version – I wish I had the money to buy another kit and try !
I’d highly recommend this item but then I worked on the Vehicles ladder, roof rack and winch system so I’m bias! 🙂
Very well designed a lot of thought gone in to it. Looks good when completed. My husband who is a land rover fan was amazed at the design. Would be great if it came with a motor so it could be seen moving along. Would recommend.
We baught this for our lego/landrover mad teenager. He absolutely loves it but we both agree that for all the amazing work underneath eg:gear box ect you don’t get to see any of it once fully built so that’s a down star.
It took him about 24 split hours to complete.
A superb model, built over 3 sittings… all works as it ought too, the straight six isn’t quite as good as other Lego engines but okay.
3 missing parts, Lego are not quite as spot on as they used to be but, credit where credit is due, replacements on their way with no quibble.
Fancy a Bugatti now…
I bought this for my girlfriend, she’s done several technic sets but this is by far and away the most detailed and time consuming, which is perfect because she wanted something that would take a good few hoyrs/days to complete.
The detail is outstanding and all the components work just as if it were a real vehicle. I’ve been a car mechanic for over 30 years and I am seriously impressed with this.
I saw this about a month before release, but kept an eye on Amazon pricing – 128, thank you ;o). Regardless of the price, it’s a great build and very clever yet again from Lego to come up with gears, diffs, steering and h/l speed transmission linking to a working (would be better if it were pistons like the porsche, harley etc) straight 6. Not quite as smooth an operation as the GT3RS in terms of gears, but, come on, this is lego and not a road-going vehicle with 3 yr warranty!
A really good kit, I would recommend to anyone. You will need to keep on top of the instructions, check and recheck for a rewarding build experience. The detailing is superb and makes a solid model once completed.

Overall, it looks great on the shelf, once it’s done. Though I’m considering tearing it down and building it again just for the fun of it.
At first you wonder how on earth the various mini builds will make a Defender but gradually the familiar outline starts to take shape and the final large model is very impressive. The moving parts add novelty but the model really is a talking point whever anyone sees it.
All the family joined in and the joint sense of satisfaction was immense. Great fun, highly recommended.
