I thought I would write this review in case anybody was thinking of doing something similar. I took the plunge buying these lights after months of dithering and glad I did!
I wanted to illuminate my decking area in my garden but didn’t fancy hard wiring lights and I have an outside socket that I could easily plug these into. I attached all three lights to a plinth (ie a piece of wood I managed to pinch from work and stain before bolting to the wall). They throw a decent amount of light onto the space and I love that they can be synced with my Spotify account! (Fairly shoddy video demonstrating – looks better in real life!)
Usual Philips Hue quality and unfortunately that means usual Philips Hue price tag! I think it’s worth it. Eventually I will tidy up the cables

    Used as decking lights

I have been extremely impressed with these lights. They have transformed our garden at night. Very easy to control through the bridge/app and the different scene modes are brilliant. Particularly love being able to import a photograph to the app and have the lights then match the colours of the photo. I bought 2 more lights within a week of the first set to complete a string of 5 and would buy more if I thought I could get away with it. Outstanding!

Was not as bright as I had expected, can create nice lighting in the garden but realize will need a few more, the only put off is the price.

Used for garden lighting, excellent product and if the usual Hue standard, easy to add to existing light network

Bit pricey but have changed our garden to a special place to relax in in the evening. Highly recommended

I’m a big Hue fan so knew what to expect with these lights. They are not the cheapest but work straight out of the box and give my garden a great look in the evening. Easily paired with Alexa I can turn them on and change colours to highlight my Japanese Acer trees with simple voice commands. Expensive but for me do the job and like all of the other Hue lights I have at home, haven’t let me down yet. Remember these are not flood or spot lights as such although when set to white with s high luminance setting do throw out some good light.

Love these, makes the garden when used with apps really magical, the only downside is the ridiculous price

These are expensive but they look expensive too. Very sturdy cabling. Like the fact you can extend them. the limitation on white is excellent although the colours are considerably less bright. Worker with Alexa very easily. I hesitated to spend so much on three garden lights but it is worth it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersNot thay bright with colours but the effect is amazing and really sets off a modern garden and makes it so easy to turn on the garden lights with Alexa. If you have issues pairing just turn them on and off and have them near the hub to start with then move them to where uou need them. Have ownes for 9 months and not had any issues. It is expensive but you do get what you pay for.

Amazing build quality, great colour range. Only downside is that they don’t get very bright, especially when change a different colour.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI’ve relied on solar lights for my garden for years. They’re great in summer, but worthless in winter when you really want that dark space lighting up. I’d started investing in Hue Smart Lights in the house, so the move to installing them outdoors was a natural progression. We took a deep breath and spent a decent lump of money on 6 spotlights bought as two seperate base units (see later) and two extension pedestals, . They were dead easy to instal. We followed the advice of others and set them up on the Hue app simply by plugging them all together indoors (and thus making sure they all worked). We created 2 seperate “zones” to put them in (ie 3 spots and 1 pedestal in each). Then, we just disconnnected them and reconnected them outside. Now spread around the garden, they look fabulous at night and the option to create different colours on a “per bulb” basis is just a lovely addition. Cabling is simple to connect from our outdoor electric sockets. It now needs us to just move them around, over time, to highlight the different parts of our garden that we want to. We also bought an additional 5 meter extension cable, but this is unecessary. The spotlights come with 3 x 5metre lengths, so you have plenty of cable to work with. And, there is enough cable from the plug to the first light to ensure there is no need to buy extra cable.

Note that these lights do need a Hue Bridge (connected via eternet cable to the wifi router) to make them work. Note also that you must purchase at least one “base” unit as that includes the plug and transformer. In the case of our purchase, the two pedestals were classed as “extensions” and, again, come with plenty of cabling but, as extensions, do not include the plug and transformer. I really like the fact that, once you’ve made the commitment, it is extremely easy to add lights to the maximum allowed “per cable from the plug” by Hue. That is 5 lights or 35 metres of cable. So, we’re nearly at the maximum unless we add more base units, but as it stands right now, I doubt we’ll need to worry. The lighting is bright enough to create good effects, although once you move into colours rather than white, the power of the light is definitely less. But, that is, I think, a good thing as surely use of colours is more for effect than you may use white light for?

I’m very happy to give these a 5 star rating. It’s unfair, as some have done, to mark them down because they’re expensive (which they undoubtedly are). As with everything, you get what you pay for and if these bulbs last for the expected 6 or 7 years, then I think the annual cost is quite acceptable.

Good quality lighting. Easy to install and link to your phone. If there’s any criticism it would have been better if the colours were a little brighter.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThese lights are brilliant. They offer complete colour change flexibility down to individual lights. The quality of materials used is first class. The only downside is the price. Even at Amazon Black Friday sale prices they are expensive. They say you get what you pay for though.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersBut with that said, they are bulletproof Philips quality and reliability. I know i could have probably looked elsewhere for cheaper, but with these i now have 48 bulbs so am pretty invested in the system. these coupled with a couple of light cubes i think look spot on. I use homeseer server to stagger the colour looping so they all slowly rotate through different colours and pretty much as the light cubes do. i love the effect in the garden. I also do think that these need to be much brighter. but i am pretty happy with the result, but i should be as it has nearly cost 1000 to light my garden. but as long as they last and are as reliable as my internal bulbs it is money well spent IMHO

Great Garden Lighting.. got these in bundles on Prime day, but even then overpriced IMHO

Even though these lights are expensive for what they are they are a great addition to the garden. Everyone comments about the quality and range of colors.

These were really easy to install (we already have Hue bulbs inside the house) and although they are on the pricey side they are really well made. Being able to easily add them to our Hue routines and turn them on / off remotely is fab

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThese was very easy to install if you have an outside socket reasonably close by…comes with plenty of cable so you can place them a decent distance apart if needed.
picture doesn’t do them justice being on in ice white with post lights on aswell… but there’s a fantastic amount of colours you can choose, you can also set individual colours for each spotlight too or use the scene option.

    Great set of spotlights

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersNice well made lights and very expensive, easily set up and works well with the amazon Alexa , strangely enough Siri sometimes can’t find 1 of the three lights yet amazon Alexa can ! My only complaint is the length of the cables 5 meters , if I want to buy another light I don’t want to be restricted to the length of the attached cable to the light which looks line about a foot , so I would need to buy another 5 meter cable 14 Why can’t tbey make a cable say 3 meters for example as trying to hide a 5 meter cable can be a bit tricky in a small area of my flower bed . Overall I love them and will get more Lily’s tho iam looking into maybe buying two callas instead

Expensive but great added feature to my garde

Golden Review Award: 27 From Our UsersThis is a great addition to any hue set up, it is amazing how much these little lights transform the back garden and it looks so magical just with the three units. It is really easy to set up and install – just need to ensure you have a power source and you are good to go. You only need one power outlet as these connect together in a chain on the one power source.

I found them to be really bright and not sure on some of the other reviews…they add accent lighting and do this really well, when on the full bright white they do throw off a lot of light and much more than i was expecting based upon some of the reviews.

Another review notes that you can not control this from outside the home which is incorrect – as with all the hue products, if you have you hub enabled for out of home control you can control these lights when away from you wifi network – i can confirm that this works and works the same way as all other Hue lighting.

Another quick tip, you can connect a maximum of 5 of these light units into the one power source…any more than this and you need to get a new base set with the power supply. This was confirmed to me by Hue and in the instructions – it is to do with the low power and the long cables used.

The set contains everything you need to get started with a 5m cable per light and the power source too – word of warning, once you get these you will want more! They are great and transform the outdoor space!

    Another fantastic Hue produc

Golden Review Award: 66 From Our UsersThese are typical of Hue’s high quality and worked flawlessly first time. Each extension cable is 5m long and it just carries 24v of power (no signalling) so you join two (or more) together to get a 10m length. The cables are proprietary (see attached photos) and I haven’t found anything that matches at the time or writing so if you want to extend them you’ll have to do it yourself (and void the cable warranty). I used some low voltage cable and some IP68 couplers (B072R5KY4C).

My single criticism (and it is significant) is that they just aren’t very bright, especially if you use colours (but see update below). This is possibly a limitation of the low voltage. I wanted to use one to illuminate a 4m Japanese Cherry tree from the bottom but it barely lit beyond 1.5m (in the attached photo you can’t even see it against the tree lights). I have Hue bulbs in the outdoor lights attached to the house and porch which are much brighter and illuminate a wider area. I can see why Philips have done it – it avoids high voltages in the garden which on balance is probably the better option. As such, these should be viewed as accent lighting rather than fill or flood.

UPDATE: since buying, I’ve had one with water ingress which shorted it. I may have been unfortunate but would be interesting to know the failure rate. I’ve also bought three more for the front and these do appear brighter especially with colours so could be a ‘version two’.

    Excellent lights
