If you put it on your DCC layout and it buzzes and doesn’t move that’s because it doesn’t have a DCC chip inside it is DCC READY. Putting it on a DCC layout for any length of time will blow the engine
The styling is beautiful, and the construction great, but is in difficult to set straight on th track because the little bogey wheels at the front are mobile and independent on the driving wheels..
But once it has been successfully mounted on the track it is poetry imn motion.
A4 is brilliant because it’s simple design and hard to tell the difference between this and the detailed version when running on track. Runs well and smooth, great addition to the railway
After seeing how much second hand units of The Mallard go for I was initially very surprised with the price of this one new. Once it arrived I popped on the brake lines and ran it in. It works excellently pulling a generous rake of coaches with no effort at all.
Beautifully made replica of the Mallard steam engine. Unfortunately one of the coupling rods was striking the engine casing thus creating a most annoying click……hence the four stars. At the price paid, I would expect Hornby quality control to have picked this up. Shame as Hornby products are overall on the expensive side.
I bought this knowing it was a railroad budget model, therefore I did not expect it to be as well detailed or accessorised as a more expensive model. It runs really well and is quiet with little or no motor noise. Anyone buying this expecting a display quality model needs to shake their head. Maybe they would expect to pay a mini price for a porche, so to judge it by that criteria is wrong. Very pleased and it doesn’t look bad at all on the track where the detail isn’t that noticeable anyway.
This engine has exceeded our expectations. Many of the larger engines seem to struggle on our track but this flies around and is good at staying on the rails
Mallard arrived on time at my private station some where in deepest Kent. The model is a great piece of engineering and now joins my
model rolling stock of steams greatest locomotives. What will I do when I have all of them?
