I purchased this hedge trimmer as bosch is a trusted German make. I’ve got other bosch tools and have had no problem.
If you’re not very strong, you will need to take lots of breaks whilst using this hedge trimmer, as I find it’s very heavy. Does the job OK, but as I’ve said before it’s heavy even with the trimmer head off?
In the box are the manual and a separate piece of paper with the instructions to go online and register with bosch to get a 3yr warranty, which I have done, it makes sense to do so.
Putting the hedge trimmer together was a snip no problems.

Has plenty of reach when fully extended and the tiltable cutter makes it easy reach high objects. Is ideal for trimming thin tree branches (I use my Chain Pole for the thicker stuff). Can be a bit heavy when fully extended due to a “pendulum effect”

Bit worried when I received box from driver, the security seal on the side was broken, checked contents, all there, no plastic wrapping on product but I don’t know if it should be wrapped up in plastic bags or not… looked like someone had opened it to check contents…. tried out trimmer, works OK, no signs of being used before, I was worried incase this was a faulty return and they’d sent it to me.. over all I’m pleased with my purchase, but disappointed it arrived how it did…..

    Broken security seal....

Bought this to replace a budget extendable cordless hedge trimmer that I bought from Amazon a few years back, and which gave up the ghost when I caught the blades on barbed wire.

The old machine had a longer blade, and that difference in blade length was the immediately obvious disadvantage with this Bosch, although self evidently its a shortcoming which can be mitigated by extending the pole. However, most disappointing of all is that the cutting power doesn’t seem to be as significant as that of the tool it replaced. Still, being a Bosch it feels substantial, it charges fairly rapidly and will no doubt last for years if looked after.

Edit: used it again today and I would agree with other reviewers that it’s underpowered. My previous hedge trimmer was a rather clattery affair, but it rarely failed to cut. This Bosch doesn’t so much “clatter” as “mutter gently”, and during use I constantly feel as if its struggling and on the point of jamming.

This hedgetrimmer really does the job. It arrived right on schedule and having charged the battery I started on the hedges round our garden. Three hours later the job was complete. In the past this has taken two working days to do, so I am well pleased with the item. The battery did not need to be recharged during the job and at the end topping it up took just over an hour.
5 stars well deserved and thoroughly recommended.

Just finished using, did everything I wanted.
Quite a lot of other reviews say about it being heavy & it is when you’ve been using for a bit, but having said that, be realistic! We’re talking about a hedge trimmer at the end of a six foot pole! Put anything on the end of a pole & lift it up in the air & it’ll be heavy!
Like I say, did everything I wanted it to so in all honesty I’m quite satisfied.

I liked the ability to reach awkward and out of reach areas. But the motor needs to be much faster to do anything worthwhile.

It’s heavy and you will need some strength if you are using this to trim tall hedges. That to one side, it easily handled some quite tough hedge trimming business and we are very pleased with this purchase. We were quoted 200 to have our hedges trimmed. Managed to do the work with this hedge trimmer in just over an hour. And then we did our neighbours hedge. The battery lasted for both jobs on one charge.

Having struggled to keep my 10′ high tree in shape using ladders and hand held shears and such i wish i had seen and bought this from Bosch ages ago. It is a little heavy but to be expected really. Not a negative at all. Made really well. So, it only took 5 minutes to trim my tree using it and no ladders. Perfect. I cannot wait for it to grow again so i can trim it some more!

Really pleased with this wish we had bought one before. So convenient to get out and use, fairly heavy but much quieter than our electric trimmer. Keep the batteries in doors charged up so always ready for use. Doesn’t cut thicker branches but it is a trimmer not a chain Saw! Used mainly to control conifers and shrubs.

Not really used it properly as it needed to be charged only arrived a couple days ago so just tried it on the tops of hedge very impressed, lightweight which is exactly as I wanted it to be. Would definitely recommend and buy this product again.

I have a corded normal hedge trimmer and doing the hedges which are over 2m high and 1m deep in some place has been back braking and sometimes dangerous work that took up to 3hrs. Charged this new battery extended trimmer up in 30 minutes and spent two hours from front to back pulling the hedges right back after crazy growth recently. It cuts through thick branches but does need a few moments to get through. It’s heavy enough on your arms after a while but the strap really helps. Recommend spending few minutes working out how to leverage the strap for each new cutting angle you will use. Also found it really handy to change the head angle plenty as I was able to cut all of the top and back side of hedges really well by changing it. I knew one of these would make life much easier and save all the bee stings I usually get whilst at the top of my ladder trying to reach tricky spots. No cable means you can walk around and check your work often without having to move cables that get tangled in the hedge. Extremely happy with what I read before buying to actual result using it. Highly recommend for those with tall or wide hedges that grow fast. It’s hard work so do expect to need good upper body strength to use.

    Worth every penny!

This is a lot safer than climbing up steps or ladders to cut back hedges and bushes. I’m not going to say easier because after 20 minutes of using this at full extension, even with the shoulder strap, my arms felt like they were on fire. Standard power to cut wood about 3cm thick if you’re persistent and an excellent range. The cutting head pivots both ways which is useful. Arrived with a good charge in the battery and assembled in minutes.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersThe product seems well built, the cordless works well, the battery power lasts and does everything the manufacturer’s claim so I have given it 4 stars. However the product is of limited use. Some of my comments
probably apply to most long handled hedge trimmers. I bought it to cut a 5 meter high hedge. Standing on the lower rungs of a step ladder and with the blades pointing straight up I can just about reach the top but it becomes tiring after a short while. The hedge had a year’s growth and it cut this with no difficulty however if there was 2 years or more growth then I think it would struggle. When I adjusted the head to 90 degrees to cut the top of the hedge I lost about 2 feet in length so had to go further up the step ladder and the trimmer felt a lot heavier and difficult to use . As the hedge was wider than the trimmer blades I had to get my extension ladder out and cut the top with extending hand shears; whilst I was up the ladder I might just as well cut the hedge with my normal hedge trimmer! It becomes particularly useful where I could not use the extension ladder for example cutting the hedge immediately behind a shed. It is therefore not a complete solution to cutting a high hedge but a “useful additional tool to have in the toolbox” . It is also good for cutting stand alone trees/bushes up to about 2.5 metres such as Leylandi and Laurel; also Ivy, Honeysuckle growing up walls as I do not have to get the ladder out..

The battery life was better than expected, I already have two of the batteries with my drill and only used one to cut a lot of hedges.

This is ideal for long reach, light trimming. It won’t cut thick branches.

You need some strength to hold it up high as it’s pretty top heavy.

All in all I’m happy with the purchase.

Struggles with the thicker branches, and the battery life isn’t brilliant, however, with the second battery, it can finish the job nicely.

  24.  United Kingdom

I was a little nervous about buying this as I wondered if the fact that it is battery powered would effect it’s cutting power. I must say that an electric or petrol driven power tool would be more effective but that said this model does do a decent job. I have now used it around 3 or 4 times on my Holly Hedges which are quite difficult to cut. The tool does quite a good job and the battery lasts for ages before it needs topping up. The weight is a bit of an issue with all of these power tools however, I believe that this model and make is probably the lightest available.

I loathe standing on steps or ladders to clip annual growth. This clipper has enabled me to do all of the trimming in my garden (up to 3 meters up) with ease. Although light, it can begin to feel a little heavy after a few minutes but a brief rest and I’m back cutting again: so much easier and safer than getting out steps and wobbling about on them.

This copes very well with a tall long hedge in my garden and the 2 batteries I have lasted long enough to finish the job. It may not be light enough for elderly people though and it will not tackle thick branches but is perfect for hedge trimming.

Easy to assemble and convenient to use. The adjustable cutting head and the telescopic pole enable me to cut hedges with height of about eight or nine feet while standing safely on the ground, the main reason why I bought it. Being over 60 my endurance is less than that of the battery!

  42. Jackie Lam says:

It took a bit of getting used to. I had not used one with a shoulder strap before, and using it without the shoulder strap, my arms were getting tired after 15- 20 minutes use. Once I had got the strap set up correctly, I have since used it for over an hour without any problem. The battery lasts around 80-90 minutes fully charged and takes less than an hour to fully recharge from flat. It has a very good reach and the cutting blade can be angled. I have used it on a step ladder without any problem.

Golden Review Award: 84 From Our UsersWe have a garden that is not large, but it does have a smallish tree and loads of tall shrubs, Photinia etc. For the last few years we have paid a couple of chaps to come in at autumn and give everything a haircut. However, that was a fairly expensive exercise, (although they did make a good job of it). We were musing about buying some hedge trimmers, but short of tottering around on a ladder (holding a whirring dangerously sharp instrument) there is no way that we could possibly reach the top of our shrubs, tree etc. Then I chanced upon the concept of pole trimmers, which we had not heard of before (I lead a sheltered life :-)….. Hallelujah! We already have a couple of Bosch devices and 18V batteries, so could buy this trimmer without a battery and use the ones we already had.
When I assembled it I was surprised at how long it was, even with the extension pole on minimum and slightly concerned that my (slightly vertically challenged) wife would find it unwieldy and slightly heavy (which is probably how she describes me :-), but far from it, with the shoulder strap on, she happily chopped away at anything that dared to grow in an asymmetrical way. In our 60’s neither of us are exactly “spring chickens”, but we managed to wield this device and terrify the shrubs and trees with the whirring blades, without too much effort. Certainly with the pole extended, it will reach pretty much anything we need to prune, so win, win. I believe that Bosch offer a 5 year guarantee, which is another reason why we gravitated toward the brand. There are certainly other similar devices cheaper, but too often I have found “buy cheap, buy twice” to be true. The cutty business end can be angled to allow you to cut flat along the top of hedges or other shapey bits and there is a safely catch to prevent you accidentally giving your dog an unexpected haircut. Being cordless is a bonus, as all too often I have mowed cables in half and I believe a charged battery will allow you to trim 200 m2.

Excellent product, very easy to use, trimmed cypress trees at 5 metre height with a total hedge length of 10 metres within an hour on a 2.0 amh battery. It is not the lightest of objects and my arms and shoulders did ache a little the following day, this I think is due to using it at its fullest length. It cut through branches of approximately 1 cm thickness easily. Overall it saved me a lot of money, I bought this trimmer ( I already had batteries) and a short scaffold tower for 197 . The tree surgeon wanted 360 for the job, I have the tools for the next five years at least so a massive saving .

Great quality as expected from Bosch , very good universal battery life. Doesn’t get blocked easily with thick branches, BUT , while perfect for high hedges it can not be used Without the extension pole makes it unpractical at all for low hedges. a bit heavy make it unstable to use and should have been provided with a shoulder strap as other less expensive models . Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAbsolutely brilliant it is light weight and work brilliantly I would say though that because it is battery and not petrol you lose all the weigh at the bottom from the engine so it is very out of balance in weight as it is all at the top of the pole where the blade is and after 15 to 20 mins of use it feel the weight at the top and it can become hard to keep control. They could do with having a counter weight down near the battery to help with control

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI bought this because I have conifers trees over 4 metres tall and hedging that is over 2 metres wide in places. Standing on ladder stretching to reach these was becoming more precarious, so this was the perfect answer. I did first look at the Stihl cordless pole trimmers but the prices didn’t justify the amount of use I was going to get out of it.
Setting up is easy, you just join the top half which has the cutting blades to the bottom half that is the motor. After charging the battery just slide it on below motor and attach the carrying strap. Will say it is not the most powerful unit, struggles with anything thicker than your thumb but if you have a mature hedge and only cutting back yearly growth then it works well. The cutting head is great in that you can angle it nearly 90 degrees both ways, makes for an easier manoeuvring.
Didn’t give 5* on lightweight because you will feel it in your upper arms and body after using but it is more to do with the nature of the job than the unit being heavy.
Overall a great piece of kit for doing those hard to reach areas.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis Bosch hedge trimmer was about as good as I expect. Not as good at cutting as mains powered trimmers I have used in the past, but a _little_ lighter and easier to manage for top of the hedge. The (new and freshly charged) battery lasts about half an hour. Safer than mains and quicker to get going (no lead). Cuts through some occasional new growth of about 1cm diameter. It becomes obvious when the battery is low because it struggles towards the end. Not particularly light after half an hour and the switch needs a full time firm grip to hold in the “on” state. On the whole I prefer to use a mains powered trimmer, this battery option has its advantages.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBy comparison with a Von Haus hedge cutter that I bought and had to immediately return as it was not only short of a key part, and arrived dirty and in a scruffy box, this Bosch unit is in a different league, being very well made (and packaged) and does what it is supposed to do, cutting through my hawthorn hedge like a knife through butter. Yes, it can be a bit of a strain on the arms when fully extended, but cuts neatly and quickly. Control switches are easy to use. The shoulder strap is a useful addition, which one may need to adjust when using different lengths of extension. Battery life seems good, and it charges quickly. If you register the product with Bosch there is a three year guarantee.

Quality written all over it , does everything it says on the tin ! I am 75 and can use this albeit in 10 min. bursts as it is not an especially light piece of kit . It does NOT have a handle loop on the pole , only a grip section , bad design decision . Good to be able to cut the top of a 2.5 m hedge without a pair of rickety steps . Quick to charge and long run time . I paid under 110.00 inc. battery & charger with Amazon , a good deal !

Thoroughly recommend but not for those with weak wrists or arm muscles .

Cuts will same great battery life. A little heavy to handle but the strap can help depending on the angle

Bit of a dream machine. I have and use a petrol hedge trimmer that reaches up high but after a few minutes my arms start to feel the effort of the weight and moving it. Plus there is having to get petrol. I will still have to use the petrol one I’m sure but this is so light and being able to extend it while up on steps is brilliant. The battery is interchangeable with other Bosch 18v tools. My hedges are tall and broad I needed it on full extension to get to the other side of the hedge. I have used it off and on for about an hour and the battery worked without charging or changing.

I bought this to trim the top of the of a large holly tree that I couldn’t reach, It obviously doesn’t have the grunt of some of the bigger plug in trimmers but I was impressed. I was also surprised how well the batteries lasted I only have the 1.5ah batteries and one did the job

As you would expect at full extension it feels heavy but that’s just leverage working against you, (it’s probably also not intended to be used fully extended horizontally from a ladder)

I used this to cut my big hedges & it works well, not being too heavy. I wanted something that doesn’t make too much noise compared to petrol & I’m glad I went for cordless, electrical. Good battery life so far too.

QUITE HEAVEY AT FULL HEIGHT BETTER FOR A YOUNGER PERSON OK TO USE IN SHORT SPELLS

A short 40ft run of 18ft-high leylandii hedge needs frequent pruning. This pole cutter is a bit unwieldy for a 70yr-old but did enable me to get the job done very nicely; well pleased with the result.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersMuch better than expected. I used to think pole cutters were too feeble to do any real work but this has transformed my gardening and is useful at all levels. Because the motor is at the far end it is bound to feel heavy and you do have to get used to that and to work out the best technique. There is a harness but this cannot compensate for the weight and is restrictive so it is better to manage without it. Battery power is better than expected and by the time it runs out you will want a break anyway!

Easy to use and good battery life. Ideal if you already have other Bosch products as you will already have the charger. Does a fair job although non battery versions will probably be more powerful.

It’s a little heavy when fully extended but other than that very good. The battery life is good and when it’s dead it charges quickly. It’s not a really heavy duty tool but if you keep on top of your hedge it’s very good. I am plese with it and do recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHas made it easy to cut the tops of the hedges. Much quicker to use than a corded trimmer. Fairly lightweight and the battery seems to last a long time. Easy to re-angle the head with a push button. Have knocked off a star due to the spring coming out of the shoulder strap clip after a few uses, so I have to find a way to secure it. Difficult to use without the shoulder strap, and has really let down Bosch. I know I am not the first reviewer this has happened to. Otherwise very good.

As the electric motor is in the cutting end and very heavy it is difficult to lift when facing hedges.

It’s a good product, well made but wow, it is pretty heavy when fully extended. The sling is vital but it is still heavily lopsided on balance. It does a good job but beware using on a ladder. It works really well.

Although, like all electric hedgecutters, the balance is awkward, with the motor at the cutting end, the blades are very effective. Manages a 12 meter long, 2 meter high hedge (one side) without needing to re-charge.

Not easy to use at first but OK after a while. It is invaluable for keeping a 10 foot hedge tidy.
I like to garden early in the morning so it is a real bonus that I can use this without disturbing the neighbours.

I used the hedge trimmer on a 15 feet high and almost 7-8 meter long hedge.
I had some 15 mm branches in between. The machine did an amazing job with fast speed.
Very easy to use and change angle. Tip: Must buy protective glasses when trimming overhead.

Lacking a bit of power but does most of the trimming I need to do seems sturdy enough

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersEasily assembled. The lights on the charger could be better placed and more informative. The small clip on the strap broke at first usage. Trims the smaller bits of the holly hedge easily and manages the denser parts surprisingly well. Much lighter than the old, but powerful, petrol cutter. Much less fuss to use.

after using a petrol powered pole cutter on a 10 foot high leylandii (for best part of 3 years),this machine is awesome. Its so much lighter than my petrol one,no bother with starting ,no 2 stroke to worry about. On 1 battery charge it cut 40 meters of hedge with charge still in the battery.Cordless is the future for me 🙂

Quite heavy so can only use trimmer in short bursts. Find it quite difficult to remove the battery after use.

Golden Review Award: 30 From Our UsersThis isn’t going to munch through a badly maintained hedge with ease – it really only coped with fairly thin branches. I was disappointed at first as I had to use an extendable pruner to cut back the thicker branches but can now keep things under control with this device. The battery seems to last about 30 minutes or a little longer but it charges very quickly. At full extension the cutters are heavy and tricky to handle but using the supplied strap and a little practise helped.

I am a shorty and we have high bushes in our garden. This product is light and sturdy compared to a previous cutter I purchased from another company. The reason for this is the handy strap. The only draw back is this machine is not as powerful as a wired cutter. Other than that pretty decent.

Golden Review Award: 49 From Our UsersI buy Bosch because they make the best household products, in my view. As much as I dislike saying it as a Brit, the Germans build stuff like no one else. This fits the ‘all 4 for 1’ range , so I didn’t need to spend money on batteries and chargers I don’t need. The product is long and slightly front heavy given it has a light weight battery at the back, but just a case of getting used to it ( and better than a back heavy petrol tool in my view). This is a fantastic product which works well and has made my hedge cutting so much more ‘enjoyable’, or should I say less less onerous. Recommended and well worth the money.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersDoes exactly what it “says on the tin”. I was concerned at only having a 2.5 Ah battery but it seems to last for what I want to do. It says it will give power for 200 sq m so that’s Ok

Good Bosch tool; plenty of power – just a little heavy at full extension although the strap harness helps. Best I’ve used of its type.
