All of them , as expected are the high end expensive Apple, Samsung, Google pixel smartphones.
Without being a smart watch, Kardia is approved and costs considerably less.

Before you buy a device, please check is the ECG recording is at medical grade

Some people say it’s expensive but it’s a fifth of the price of an iWatch and this tech wasn’t invented overnight.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI ordered this on the advice of my cardiologist. I hadn’t read the reviews and just ordered it. Having seen a couple of complaints about setting it up I wanted to say how easy it was. There’s simple instructions with the app and it’s dead easy to follow. Seconds after setting it up I took an ECG and saved the read out as a pdf. I can only imagine there were some early glitches that have been resplved as I’m no techie and was watching the rugby while I did it!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLove that I can check if things are OK with my heart. The ECGs measured reproduce nicely.
When first using try several positions and find one where the miniscule trembling of muscles doesn’t induce noise. After every measurement the very first thing to do is to download pdf, then you can view it without paying. For help with basic interpreting, do some google searches: there are good descriptions for medical students and also apps (then of course the best is to show the downloaded pdf to your doctor).

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersGP asked me to get this so that he could get an ECG during my next “turn” as my problem was intermittent and difficult for the hospital to trace – this is proving worthwhile and an excellent resource for him to make his diagnosis. Would highly recommend and literally a life saver. HOWEVER I would not recommend purchasing via Amazon who supposedly delivered it next day via Prime and “handed it to Resident” – total lies!! Ended up spending ages trying to contact Amazon and point out I was the only resident, living in a remote house, no neighbours and it had NOT been delivered, after much “discussion” was told to wait 48 hours and if it didn’t turn up they would refund the money – why say this if they were so sure it had been delivered? Yes, it was then delivered 24 hours and much stress later. Suggest you purchase via another source!

Love it so easy and accurate if you need to upgrade it’s simple it’s proved invaluable to me, as I had a problem with my pacemaker I sent a number of readings to the clinic as I was aware there was an issue with one of my leads 3 weeks later into hospital and pacemaker replaced along with the faulty lead.

So easy to install and connect via Bluetooth to my iphone. Now, instead of faffing about trying to cover my phone flash to try and take an ECG on my phone, I just open the Kardia app, tap once on the Home Screen to start taking a reading, place index fingers gently on each end of the Kardia device and within a few seconds it’s taking a really accurate basic ECG which you can save or download to share with your consultant or GP. The basic model is perfect for spotting AFib and in my opinion the reassurance it gives me makes it worth every penny.

Now whenever I have any symptoms I take a 30 second recording and can send it via email to my Cardiology team who can use the information provided to build up a picture of how my heart is working and adjust my treatment accordingly.

The machine itself is very easy to set up and use giving you a clear indication as to how fast or slow my heart is beating. It is small and light and can easily be carried on my keys or in a pocket.

I purchased this as my wife has recurring unexplained shaking episodes. After discussing with my GP I told him I was prepared to purchase this myself. The problem we were having was that an ECG needed to be done during or shortly after an episode and by the time I could get her to hospital it was too late and the shaking subsided. It did not help that there were usually 100 + people in a queue at A&E. But that was not their fault. Eventually we were able to get a series of readings and via an app were able to print and pass to our GP He forwarded these to the hospital for analysis. This resulted in no further action required in this area.. thanks to the reading from this instrument . It give great confidence going forward. It has since been approved by NICE. Buy one if you need one do not hesitate

I’ve recently had issues with intermittent palpitations and have been able to use this handy device to record an ECG whenever I have issues and share these results with my GP/consultant.

One thing to note is that if you are at all anxious about your symptoms, using this may actually make you more anxious when it shows anything that is abnormal.

As others have said, for the best experience the app does want you to sign up and allow your data to be stored. However, you don’t need to pay a subscription to do this or to save a pdf copy of your ECGs.

To get the best signal when recording, I make sure I’m in a quiet room away from other electronics and turn on airplane mode temporarily, then place the Kardia as close to the microphone of the phone as possible before recording. I’ve had no issues at all with signal using that method.

Well worth the money and my cardiologist confirmed that they are reasonably accurate.

I suffer AF and my doctor lent me one of these to try out. You download the free ap and then follow the onscreen instructions. If your phone has NFC you need to turn it off temporarily (remember to turn it back on when you go shopping). The machine can pick up AF and non sinus rhythm heart beats and saves the ecg so that you can show your doctor. Brilliant little thing. I have intermittent heart irregularities and it is difficult to get it to perform just when the doctor is there so this is useful for when you go in to see them.

I bought this Monitor to confirm that I have a normal sinus rhythm. If I develop an arrhythmia, then I will have to buy more advanced and expensive upgrades to determine what kind it is. AF is not the only one it might be. Certainly, I will have to see a doctor! But for now the KM allows me to ignore the irregular heartbeat symbol which occasionally appears on my high blood pressure monitor.

I was interested in this product when I first saw it on Amazon but I was put off by the list of compatible phones. I tried looking online, including the Amazon list, but found no information about my own phone. Eventually I took a gamble and discovered that my Samsung A12 is highly compatible, as I assume would be most of the newer Samsung phones.

I ordered and it was delivered the next day. It is small, easily portable in my shirt pocket (or any other) and the case I also bought protects it nicely. The Kardia app is easily downloadable and simple to install. After installing just follow the onscreen instructions to use the device. My readings and the resulting comments are easily saved on my phone and/or sent to my any e-mail address I choose. I send them to myself mostly but can if I wish send them straight to my GP or cardiologist. There is also the facility to take another person’s readings without them getting mixed up with my own, and to send them onwards to wherever they need go.

However I would suggest that any new user plays with it for a while and finds a position where they can sit quietly, comfortably and still while the reading is taken. Until I found ‘my place’ the readings were distorted by muscle noise and slight movements: after I found it they are mostly just like the normal readings seen in text books. Now I am looking forward to my next AF episode to see what it shows and tells me then….or am I mad to wish that upon myself? But I recommend this product as strongly as my cardiologist recommended it to me.

I had a couple of Heart Attacks a couple of years ago (2019) and my Heart Nurse loaned me one of these, it was a bit fiddly to use out of the box, (I had to send it back to her in pristine condition), but since I bought my own, I fitted it to the back of my mobile phone and found it very much easier to use.
You don’t have to pay a monthly fee and you can email the ECG print-out to your computer for viewing at any time, it may not say I am having a Heart Attack, but it gives me that ‘piece of mind’.

I have been sensing a few ‘flutters’ in my chest recently and was beginning to worry, so much so that the flutters became more apparent. Bought this as getting a Doctor’s appt atm is nigh on impossible. It arrived quickly and once the app was installed, I tried it out. My mind was instantly put at ease – no flutters since (must have been anxiety). That said, my Dad does have arrhythmia and when he had a go on it, it showed up the problem – so I can definitley confirm it work if you do have arrhythmia. Recommended.

I was curious about this device because our specialist vet cardiologists use it as alternative-complementary to holter monitoring in some cases. So I bought it for myself after doing some research: it is FDA approved, there are some interesting studies on Pubmed and is recommended by some cardiologists. In some cases I had arrhytmias, and with this device I discovered some benign VPCs. (I need to drink less coffee, basically).
I discussed about this product online with some friends, one of them bought this product as well, because he felt that he wasn’t right and had arrhytmias, he did already 24h holter monitor, but there are some days that is doing well. He bought Alicecor with six leads. He has been able to diagnose atrial fibrillation with repeated measurements and went to the cardiologist. The cardiologist said “you did a big thing buying this device” and will carry on to investigate and treat his conditio

This has been a godsend for us. The vet recommended our cat went to hospital but we knew this would be very stressful for her and the reason was a heart condition. After many talks, the vet recommended this device and I give it 10/10, it is great. The first few readings the vet didnt think it recorded everything, but the 3rd was perfect. I think this is because it wasn’t manufactured specifically for animals and our cat was very stressed. It is affordable, lightweight, not intrusive and I am grateful the vet recommended it. Once you get the 30 second reading you can download it and email it to the vet directly.

Very good for picking up traces and unless you pay for an upgrade they are stored on your device only. However, you can email them to yourself if you want to print them out for reference/ have back up copies. Have had no problems setting up or using with i phone and have multiple records which are easy to view under ‘ history’. Previously I had tried a cheaper ecg monitor which was rubbish and wasted a lot of money. Wished I had paid the extra for this. The only criticism is that if you are clearly in AF it picks it up but other rhythms can be ‘ unclassified’ – however you can refer to these should you be seeing a dr.
Little note- to use with an i phone it needs access to microphone for it to work. Also helps if you moisten your fingers before putting on the sensors and place the sensor next the bottom ( microphone) end of the phone.

I bought this on a whim as It felt like I was having an irregular heart beat. Turns out I was correct and with the evidence I went to my GP. Turned out that some medicine I was on, had side effects with some people and this was one of them. I’m glad I was able to correctly identify this before going to my doctor, especially with what’s going on in the world right now.
As you can see from the photo, the device is tiny and connects seamlessly with my phone via Bluetooth. I carry this in my wallet with me always as it just slots into one of my free card spaces.
Please note: This shouldn’t be used in replacement of a proper 12 lead ECG but is a good indicator if you’re worried.

I already have a small portable ECG/EKG device and it works well, picking up tachycardia and bradycardia.
The reason I bought the AliveCor device is that it also detects atrial fibrillation, with which my wife has just been diagnosed.
It arrived within 24 hours on Prime. It is smaller than the other device I have, but it links directly to the iPhone, which my other one doesn’t (the latest version of that one does though).
Setting up the account is easy. We both want to use it so we set up two accounts though the main benefit of that is that reports are correctly annotated. We won’t be paying a subscription so all records are deleted from the app on each sign out.
I keep the ECGs by mailing them to me from the History part of the app before closing it down. They come out as PDFs and can then be stored on a laptop.
Main thing to note is that the device needs to be close alongside the phone, otherwise a reading simply isn’t taken. This confused us as we thought a couple of feet away would work. It doesn’t.
Overall, a convenient device and not having a subscription is no problem for us.

At the local NHS Arrhythmia Clinic they were very interested in my other monitor and asked me for full details. I will also tell them about this one.

    Recommended.

Update: the downside to this monitor is the requirement to sign into the app to use it. Sometimes you want a quick ECG, and faffing around first before you can get the reading isn’t helpful. We wanted to get a reading just now and finally opted to use the original device we had, where you can get a reading, then sign into their app to download it. It is the difference between an ECG device having some intelligence and memory of its own, and having this simple finger pad that needs an external brain. So, not as highly recommended.

Now since it’s not possible to keep her on ECG all 247 and wait for the symptom. This device seems to be a decent alternative recommended by the Doctor. So far it has been very easy to use and my mom has taken regular readings to establish any irregularities that hasn’t shown any symptoms. Overall really recommend due to ease of use and everything.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our Users*Daughters review* – My background: I had suffered from exercise induced palpitation episodes (around 240bpm lasting 20-40 minutes) for as long as I can remember, and as a young woman with a huge interest in competitive sports and fitness this impacted my life considerably. The episodes were triggered in high adrenaline moments, eg at the end of a long run, during a match, mid crossfit session, 10 minutes in to a half marathon I’d trained for 12 weeks for (true story..) – they were embarrassing and frustrating, I’d need to stop what I was doing immediately as my arms and legs would seize up, my chest would ache and my heart would be racing double time at 220bpm+. I never felt light-headed or out of breath, just completely exhausted and disappointed.

I tried absolutely everything that was suggested to me by doctors: eating before training, bearing down in a squat when having the episode, drinking cold water etc. but absolutely nothing worked for either preventing or ending an episode. I would get more and more nervous before exercise, which spurred on more frequent episodes. I saw a cardiologist and had various tests (ECG, stress test, 7-day ECG etc) but they couldn’t pick up anything ‘abnormal’ and it was impossible to trigger the episode on demand. He mentioned carrying out a catheter ablation to get a closer look, but there was no way he could carry out this invasive procedure without having any ‘evidence’ that anything was going on. At this point I had pretty much accepted this would be a permanent obstacle I’d have to face, but then he mentioned this LIFE-CHANGING device. Not cheap at 99, but then again at that point I’d have paid anything to have a ‘normal’ heart.

THANKS TO THIS PRODUCT within 1 week I’d managed to record an episode, send it to my cardiologist and get referred to the electrophysiologist cardiologist. I was diagnosed with Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and was booked in for an electrophysiology procedure, with a view to ablation. In more simple terms, the procedure involves inserting catheters & wires through my groin to my heart while awake, ideally trigger the arrythmia and use high-voltage up a wire to burn through and block the suspected ‘additional pathway’ that was causing the short-circuit. There was a chance this wouldn’t work and of course various risks associated with someone poking your heart with a wire up your groin but at that stage I would do anything!! A month later I had the procedure, probably the 3 most uncomfortable hours of my life (for my particular issue I couldn’t have sedation because my heart needed to be ‘awake’) – the cardiologist deemed it a success but only time would tell if it had solved the issue. 6 months later I can now fully confirm this was true 🙂 I feel like a new woman, and none of this would have been possible without this product!!

This is very easy to use and very easy to set up the iPhone application to be able to record heart rate and check rhythm. I get a daily prompt to check and (luckily) my reading is showing as ‘regular’. I am saying that this is 100% accurate, although I have nothing to verify this against. The App does say that this device is for education purposes only and should not be used to interpret your own ECG, so I am not sure if my ‘regular’ reading is giving me a false sense of security? I wanted to check my heart during this COVID pandemic and using anything to avoid going to see a Doctor or Hospital! You should note that this doesn’t help to identify a heart attack….

The KardiaMobile is a small, lightweight item that is very easy to use once you’re setup on your smart phone.
I recently had some chest pains after 10 games of squash in 2 days (I know, I know..) and by the 2nd day after, I was very concerned they hadn’t gone away. I didn’t want to be considered a ‘time-waster’ in A&E so I figured 100 was a small amount of money for initial clarity. Works well and explains clearly what your heart is doing (my bpm was 51 1min ago with no rhythm abnormalities detected) – but does NOT detect signs of a heart attack.
    Hope this helps?

To be honest I was a little sceptical about getting this product at first, purely because it’s difficult to know how accurate the information is, but after a week of using this those fears have gone as I have tested it against a couple of other systems I use and they all seem to correspond, in fact on one of the readings, it identified that my heart rate was very low 48 BPM, when I tested it with my BP system and my Suunto heart rate monitor, all corresponded. The device is very easy to use, and works well with the App. Overall I’m very happy with the product.

This is extremely easy to set up with the app on your smartphone and use. I also purchased a storage case so that I can transport this with me – it is small and easily fits into my bag. It can take a few wriggles of the fingers to get the reading but once it detects the pulse is extremely accurate. Can be set to record from 30secs to 5mins and even has a voice recording option. Readings can be sent direct to your dr as a pdf. Has proved invaluable at giving my consultant readings of mini arrhythmia episodes I have so he can build a picture of what’s happening. I’ve had one of these Kardia mobile 2-lead ECG devices by AliveCor for more than a year now. If, like me, you are looking at this product because you’ve had a health scare or heart-related symptoms such as palpitations or a possible arrhythmia, then this product will probably be a good buy for you.

At around 100, this could, at the very least, save you a trip or two to A&E, just by placing a couple of fingers from each hand on the two sensors. A cardiologist told me that they want to perform an ECG as soon as possible after a symptom episode. The only problem is that this takes at least an hour if you go to a hospital. With this device, particularly if you stick it to the back of your phone case and carry it around with you, it can literally be seconds after symptoms start. I even managed to catch a few episodes while they were happening. I was then able to save these recordings to the app and later show the doctors. This was really priceless.

The app is what you are really paying for here. I think you can get replacement sensors for about 30 if you buy direct from the manufacturer. Bear the importance of the app in mind if you are considering a cheaper alternative, although I’ve not tested any others as my GP recommended this one. The app’s algorithms for automatic interpretations seem pretty solid, although one irritation is that you don’t get an interpretation if you have tachycardia (100bpm or more). Hopefully, they will work on this in the future.

I tried the premium subscription option (10 per month) for the app for a few months when I first purchased it. It allowed constant heart rate recording on my Apple Watch, which was useful but it really messed up my activity monitoring, so bear this in mind. At the time, the premium option was the only way to save ECG recordings but doing so has now been free since November 2018. A good move in my opinion. There is a 6-lead version of the device coming out soon, which promises deeper interpretations, so I might well upgrade. Apparently, it can be used in either 2-lead or 6-lead mode, the latter needing to be in additional contact with the left leg.

    Overall, highly recommended!

First of all this was a very good price to pay for this item. I had been suffering from massive atrial fibrillation attacks and these had been used on me in Hospital many times prior to me having a very successful cardio version in mid January 2019. I was able to monitor what was going on in my heart by using this item.

I read several reviews before opting for the Kardio monitor. I wasn’t keen on buying anything that wasnt FDA approved and this is. A friend of mine has one also and as he had been given it as part on an NHS trial I thought thats good enough of a recommendation for me.
I didnt buy it to check on any pre-existing condition just to make sure everything was ok. My son would say it was simply to fuel my hyprochondriasis.

The monitor itself was simple to set up. It worked with both my iphone 6 and Motorola G4 plus. It connected instantly. The readings looked realistic and I saved them to email directly after taking. There were several options for saving the results. I didnt have any problems whatsoever with the device. Its a very smart piece of engineering. I have read that they are planning on building this technology into fitness trackers etc but it does beg the question what do you do with your results.

I spoke to 2 Doctors today who were unimpressed. Their view was that if you wernt experiencing any symptoms such as chest pain/shortness of breath/weakness etc then its unlikely that any GP would pursue further investigation on the basis of the readings of such a simplistic 1 lead monitor. I was a bit surprised by the response but as Doctors work on symptoms perhaps I shouldn’t have been. Its a bt like saying to a GP “ive read this on the internet and I think i’m suffering from it”. I have it on good advice that GP’s hate this form of self diagnosis

I have my expensive monitor but wonder if it did throw up anything significant what would I do with the results particularly if I was symptom free. Perhaps this technology is a little bit ahead of the game. I would be interesting to know if any other purchasers has actually taken a Kardio diagnosed condition (not pre-existing) to GP and whether they responded with scepticism or were prepared to consider the findings.

PS Kardio do offer to review 5 ECG readings for 5 as I am sure few people would be able to interpret the results themselves.

Golden Review Award: 27 From Our UsersWell, we all become complacent about our heart health until it becomes problematic. This is why I bought this device as given a recent discovery of an issue with my heart, I needed to monitor both my BP and whether there were any anomalies occurring with extra arterial or ventricular beats. I chose this device, as it was compact and reasonably priced.

I received the device quickly, however the seals on the box were broken. This was reported back to AliveCor, who quickly despatched a replacement.

    IN THE BOX
    ————–

    1. The Kardia Device
    2. Phone Attachment case with 3M Sticker to attach to your phone*
    3. Free Trial Access to 30 days of the Premium service. The premium service costs 9.99 per month (or 99.99 per annum as a 20% discount is offered).
    4. Instruction card to allow for quick set-up including registering your account with your personal details.

    * I am mentioning the phone attachment case, which is about 10, as I did not realise this, was included and nearly ordered it as well, so please note you get it included. Personally, I feel the case is probably the extra piece of kit that most would prefer to be included, as it offers the option of carrying the Kardia device with you, and using more securely on a table or desk, given the sensitivity to movement of the device. The case retails at about 24.99, which is quite expensive.

    HOW IT WORKS
    _______________

You simply download the app from the App Store and pair your Kardia device and phone via Bluetooth.

    ON-APP WELCOME SCREEN
    ———————————

There are currently the following sections for tracked data: –

    1. Electrocardiogram (EKG) – History, Last recorded EKG and button to
    2. SmartRhythm Monitoring (which requires an iWatch AND Premium service to utilise).
    2. Blood Pressure (History + ability to add blood pressure readings at your will)

    6. Insights (Premium Feature??)

    PROS
    ——-

    1. This device is compact and simple to use.
    2. Easy to take a reading on the go, and more importantly when these issues occur you are armed unlike when employing a device loaned from a hospital or cardiology service.
    3. This kit is medical grade, which means it’s accurate and your cardiologist will accept the results as being accurate.
    4. EKG report instantaneously reports whether the reading is normal or not, and a graph is produced for download and retention.
    5. Can be linked directly to your doctor or cardiologist via a code.
    6. You can request a comprehensive analysis by a cardiologist of any reading at the click of a button on-screen and at a cost of 5.00.
    7. Notes and voice recordings can be added to each EKG reading, so you can add symptoms, to provide a history or just to understand when you might have a future issue.
    8. The cost is very reasonable for the accuracy and ability to run real-time EKGs for yourself.
    9. There is a lot of additional information in the App, like Heart Education and access to external heart related resources/institutions.
    10. The phone attachment is included, so the device can be clipped ono the back of your phone for use on the go.
    11. The Colour-Coding of reports and data to show GREEN = Okay, YELLOW = Above Normal is a great and simple feature.
    12. US customers can get the device replaced for $19.99 if lost/stolen with Premium Membership.

    CONS
    ——

    1. There should be a manual, even if small to explain the basic features. For example it is possible adjust the length of the EKG recording in the settings from 30 seconds to 1, 2, 3, 4, or even 5 minutes.
    2. Many of the features are Premium, which means it becomes costly to access these services, like medication and resting heart rate.
    3. The reports could be more detailed, especially given all the potential this device has and information collated.
    4. Too sensitive to movement, as my cardiologist discounted some anomalies as slight movements.
    5. I did one Clinician Review and it is returned as “UNACCEPTABLE- Baseline noise makes it difficult to do an accurate analysis; consider repeating study”. However, what noise does this refer to and why charge 5.00 if they state this?
    6. Explanation of reports is too basic, and unless you have a little knowledge or real concern about symptoms, the device does not alert follow up.
    7. There is no reduced price replacement device for Premium UK members!

    CONCLUSION
    —————-

Well, overall this is a very handy device, which allows you to take charge of your health. However, I would say you do need to read up and learn a bit about EKGs also to understand how to read them yourself a bit, to accurately be able to monitor whether there is movement affecting the readings. The App could be much stronger, integrating the features and allowing a longer trial period. The 30-day trial period is not enough to understand all the features and evaluate the device’s worth. Clearly, most are repeat customers if they gain value from something, and will have no qualms about investing in their heart health.

I do think that a short manual would be ideal with this device, as there is a lot in the App and much to understand. You will note the Analysis Report above in the images states “no symptoms” but I do not always note the symptoms, as I want to see whether the report will come back with an issue. I did not realise that written notes could be added later.

The phone attachment although seemingly good to allow access to the App on the go, may be problematic. It is perhaps better to be sat at a desk with the device flat, rather than in the air where movement can affect the readings. Personally, I would have preferred the snap-shut case to carry with me, rather than the phone attachment, which is not so easy to remove the device from.

    RECOMMENDATION
    ———————–

Well, having learned a bit about how to read EKGs, I do have peace of mind about my heart. This device is worth the price, especially as it is medical grade to know your heart is functioning properly!!!

The perfect, portable ECG device to take charge of monitoring your HEART health!!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe product is small and easy to use. The app picks up the reading very well provided you are in a quiet room. In the UK, you will have to pay 5 to have your reading analysed by a professional. Alternatively, you can watch several YouTube videos and teach yourself. You’ll soon become used to the terminology of P intervals, QRS complex and T wave. What you won’t get, is an accurate interpretation as this is a very complicated area and small irregularies can indicate a variety of problems with the heart .The app does a rudimentary check of your result and declares it normal or unclassified. (Not had an unreadable one yet or one telling me I have a specific problem). The trouble is the Normal ones don’t always look normal (to a YouTube trained novice like me) and the unclassified ones vary in lots of ways. So which one would you sent to analysed for your five quid? In short the measuring is excellent but unless you’re willing to pay for your results, you are left in the dark.

Golden Review Award: 48 From Our UsersI bought this device to be able to take an ECG when I have these ‘attacks’. Whenever I was at my GPs the symptoms were already gone. I got the symptoms during a recent episode during the night, printed the result and showed my doctor. Now we know. Best of all, it is so easy to use. Anyone with a smartphone can take their ECG. You don t need a subscription as long as you email the reading BEFORE closing the app. But I will get the subscription to have all data in one place and to have insights at hand whenever needed. In hospital I wouldnt necessarily have my printouts with me, right? but from the app plus subscription I can always email my files to the doctor/cardiologist. The only downside: for the price of 100 it should have come with a case but a case for glasses does the same job. No need to pay for a case

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersInitially I was very pleased with this little device but now I’m not so sure! I happen to have a fairly wide range of “heart beats/min”. If I try to do a test BEFORE getting up in the morning (with heart rate 48bpm) then it says that this is out of range! If I try a test just after doing some cycling then I get the opposite problem Heart rate ABOVE 200bpm generates another error message! Inside these heart rates it works fine but as I occasionally get tachycardia (my reason for the purchase) then it seems that the device will be of little value. I’ll be returning it as “unfit for purpose”

Interestingly when I ended up in A and E the doctors said the recordings were rubbish and not helpful . However the expert , the specialist if you will Said that these devices are magic and as close as you can get and certainly helped in my diagnosis ! Remember when taking a reading do not hunch your shoulders and be relaxed . If you think you have a fib get medical advice and really it’s a no brainer to but one of these as soon as you can .

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersYou have to understand what you’re getting here – this is never going to be as good as a real ECG. But it’s good enough to give you some confidence that you’re doing OK or to alert you to a problem. Ideal if you are prone to occasional heart murmurs and so on. The option in the software to have a human look at your trace and the ease of doing that and paying for it adds a big extra level of confidence. For the money and considering how insanely easy it is to use I’d say this is great value.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersFirst off, this isn’t bluetooth – it uses some sort of inaudible audio transmission that the mobile picks up with the microphone. So it has to be really close to your phone to work properly.

But it really is a potential life saver. I used it in anger just a day after receiving it, where it confirmed that I was in afib.

What annoys me is that the subscription information isn’t listed clearly on the product purchase page either here or at AliveCor, so I’ve posted a screenshot for your info. I found the line about “unlimited storage and history of your EKGs” confusing – does Basic therefore include limited storage and history? I emailed Support about this and no, it includes none. For someone in the early stage of my paroxysmal afib diagnosis this storage and history function is invaluable so I imagine I’ll have to subscribe for at least a couple of months after my one month trial runs out.

Still, not only did the Kardia Mobile confirm I was in afib so I knew I needed to take my pill in the pocket but it then confirmed that the pill didn’t seem to be working after a couple of hours so I called 111 who sent out an ambulance car. The paramedic confirmed I was in afib so suggested a trip to A&E and so called a proper ambulance – but a while after having disconnected me from his ECG I felt better so used the Kardia Mobile again. This said I was back in sinus rhythm, confirmed by the paramedic’s ECG, so a trip to A&E was thankfully avoided. And then at the GP follow up appointment I was able to refer to the history logs to give my doctor all the times of when everything happened.

You’ll need a case but don’t bother with AliveCor’s own case, it’s worse than useless. I’ve just ordered the Hard Case for AliveCor Kardia Mobile ECG/EKG Monitor with Pill Organizer by Anellosi (Black) which also includes a pill organiser so I’ll be able to keep my pill-in-the-pocket in, well, my pocket.

Excellent potential life saver. Loses a star because of steep subscription charge that's opaque prior to device purchase

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersI was shocked when I saw the actual size of this device. It is tiny!
I was recommended it by my cardiologist for detecting atrial fibrillation.
It is certainly easy and intuitive to use and works well once you get used to the finger
placements needed to get a strong signal for the reading.
I find it is best to hold the device to the back of the phone which gives the best reading. During acquisition of the ecg the app tells you how good the contact is to alert you to changing finger pressure or position on the device if needed.
I am very pleased with the accuracy and simplicity of its use.
The only downside is that considering the high price for this very small flimsy device, I would have expected a carry case for it even if it was a plastic or cloth one.
I have bought a different brand case as I refuse to give more money to Kardia for something that should come as standard.
    Update 2021.
Diagnosed an Atrial Fibrillation perfectly and gave the same accuracy as the hospital monitor.

Golden Review Award: 96 From Our UsersIf you want the ability to record a single channel ECG to pick up an arrythmia then this product at this price is a life saver. I got this as my son (20yr old) was having palpitations on extreme exertion. The device is thin and conveniently can be attached to your phone. It sync to an app so you can review the trace and send a pdf if needed by email. Within 3 days managed to pick up an SVT 230bpm. My son emailed trace to me at work (I am an NHS consultant) and I was able to get my cardiology colleague to review. 5 months later my son has completed RF ablative therapy at the hospital. My cardiology colleague highly recommends this product and plans to buy some for use at the hospital for patients. This product will highlight a problem if it exists it is not meant to be a full diagnostic device, but will help healthcare professional to consider more thorough tests.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI recently had a Cardio Version procedure for Atrial Fibrillation. I didn’t have the usual symptoms so it the only way of knowing if my heart is still in rhythm was to request an ECG. I was lucky that my local surgery had the facility to offer an ECG (many don’t), however I had a 4 week wait before I could be seen. I started looking for a way of monitoring my heart rhythm myself, without having to bother my GP and after a Google search, I found the Kardia Mobile device. I have a very weak pulse so I fully expected that I would be returning it as I wasn’t sure if it would work for me. I am pleased to say it worked perfectly. There are one or two negative reviews about this product because of the subscription of 99 per year after the initial 30 day trial for the premium package. When you are diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation, its very worrying. Although I was told my procedure was successful, I was also told that in many cases the Atrial Fibrillation could come back at anytime. I think 99 per year is really good value for money for allowing you to be able to check your heart rhythm whenever you wish without relying on my GP or local hospital. I would recommend this product to anyone who has suffered from Atrial Fibrillation.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSeems to work OK. Trace is clean and the auto diagnosis spots AF and normal traces clearly.

Interface is simple enough but not entirely 100% obvious, Need to scroll up and down to find stuff. Would prefer a dashboard type interface.

9.99 a month for keeping records of your “history” seems a bit greedy, though you do get a month free.

On the plus side you can mail traces to yourself if you want to, so not a big deal.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThis is a very good product. It was ordered on the advice of a GP and has already proved to be invaluable. I have an underlying heart condition which results in arrhythmias. I have been able to record these episodes as they happen and show them to medical staff allowing them to see a fuller picture of what my heart has been doing.
I would urge caution to use this as a diagnostic tool (interpretation of what is a single lead ECG is minimal anyway). However, I think that it is an important investment if you suffer from any sort of AF or atrial flutter as it allows you to build up a picture over time of what your heart has been doing.
I know that some reviews have been critical of the ongoing cost for the Premium service once your 30 day free trial has expired (I am still in the free month), but I have every intention of paying the subscription as it allows you to keep all of your readings in your history. After all, what price would you put on your health?
One final thing to say, the A&E doctor who I showed this to was quietly impressed. He was able to see for himself the start of the problem that had put me in front of him in the first place…

Golden Review Award: 82 From Our UsersI’ve been having episodes of suspected SVT for years, but it has always stopped just before I’m hooked up to get an ECG at A&E. With this device, I managed to capture an episode earlier this month, so I emailed the ECG to my cardiologist and now have a confirmed diagnosis. Such a huge weight off my mind!

In my case, my heart rate was >200 bpm, so the app categorised the ECG as “unreadable”. However, my doctor said the ECG is actually really clear, which is very impressive for such a small device that’s so quick and easy to use. I carry the device around in my purse and, since I don’t pay the monthly subscription fee for the app, I just email ECGs to myself to keep a record. Definitely a worthwhile investment in my case.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersVery small and light so it can go with you anywhere. My first few attempts to take a reading failed. I was sat at my desk at work and I think I had interference from the computers. Once I found a quiet place in the office it worked great. I got this to monitor for AF which I had over a year ago. Since then I’ve had skipped heartbeats from time to time but they don’t last long enough for me to get to a doctor with an ECG to diagnose what’s happened. This will allow me to print off an ECG while I’m feeling palpitations so my cardiologist had a better idea of why im getting them. Well worth 100. I’m going to tell my GP that they should have a few of these to lend out to patients to help diagnose AF.

    Impressive little device

Golden Review Award: 68 From Our UsersKardia Mobile was recommended to me by my cardiologist. It’s not yet available on the NHS, but at 99 it’s a no-brainer for diagnosing and managing paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation (AF). It arrived quickly and works brilliantly. The hardware communicates with the app flawlessly and the app itself is very simple to use. I needed to buy a new phone case because my old armoured case wasn’t totally flat on the back. I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and went for a JETech case which is perfect for sticking the attachment plate to. I also bought a Gorilla Glass screen protector so I could put the phone face down as I don’t want to damage the ECG pads. I’m currently on the free trial of the premium service but will settle for the free basic service after 30 days. As long as I can save the trace as a PDF and email it to my cardiologist I’m happy. In a follow-up with my GP it turned out that she’d just been on an AF course and the surgery was about to be sent one to trial, so I ended up giving the GP and nurse a demo!

    Update (26/11/2017):
Yesterday evening was my first AF episode since buying Kardia Mobile. The app had no trouble capturing the ECG many times during the 3 hours it lasted, and each time diagnosed AF at between 135 and 165 bpm. My free trial of the premium service has now ended, so on the basic free service you need to choose to save each one, but it’s easy to save a PDF (either attach to an email or, as I did, save to Google Drive). My only criticism is that the ‘Email EKG’ button should really be called ‘Share EKG’ given the number of options available. I’ll be calling my cardiologist on Monday and emailing him the files, so I’ll post another update when I get his feedback.

    Update (6/12/2017):
My cardiologist agreed with the Kardia Mobile diagnosis based on the emailed traces. I’m now waiting for an appointment to discuss treatment. Without Kardia Mobile I would still be undiagnosed…

    Update (3/6/2018):
Everything is still working like new and the ECG pads don’t seem to have suffered any wear. I’ve had one further AF episode, and again Kardia Mobile worked perfectly. I’ve had several cardiology appointments since my last update, including an echocardiogram to check the structure of my heart. I’ve now been prescribed Flecainide, to take when I have an episode.

    Update (3/9/2018):
The battery ran out last week after 10 months. Not as good as described but not the end of the world (at least the batteries are cheap). I don’t use it very often so I guess I’m activating it by holding my phone which drains the battery. The biggest problem was removing the battery compartment. It’s very stiff, and despite being really careful both little clips snapped off when I removed it. I emailed AliveCor and they responded very quickly by sending a replacement battery compartment (and a spare). Great customer service! It still seemed a lot stiffer when refitting than the AliveCor video suggests so we’ll have to see what happens in next time the battery needs replacing…

A really well designed device and app
