The product write up said you could link to a smart phone and lap top,but what as far as I could see only if you use an I phone not an android and it only works with a windows system and not chrome.

smaller screen than previous one, not easy to get used to. Instruction handbook not easy to follow. I realise this will take time. Otherwise perfectly okay, seems to do everything one needs.
The Italian map not very update, and made mistakes. Tried to take us down vineyard very minor tracks. It’s slow finding we’re we were, and often we drove off waiting for it to walk up. Not as good as previous older model, I nearly sent it back!
Works well , as you would expect from tom-tom. It is a Go Basic , so no real ‘fancy’ features. Does the job it was bought for with minimal effort. 6 inch screen very good.

had tomtom before this was just as good and with free map updates
always accurate for better than inbuilt car sat nav which charge top dollar for updates and arent upto date as well and can be a nightmare to do via pc and stick.

This replaces my satnav of 10 years. (Not a Tom Tom) Obviously technology has moved on but this is easier to use and very quick to adjust if we take a different route. Used it in France and this was excellent.
I went for the tom tom as i had one before and the old was ok did the job but this new one is much better and is bigger and has a few ew thing and has improved the workings of this sat nav
It’s great once I’ve managed to programme in where I’m heading too but I’m finding it difficult to use it easily. I’m sure there must be a way to go from A to B and select the route you want (where there are several options) but I’m just not sure how to do this. I’m quite sure this is due to my age and the fact I’m not very natsav savvy!

So it works perfectly but it’s a bit delayed as you start your car takes time to give instructions you have to wait for like 5 minutes before it starts to show the directions but once started it’s perfect ….
The GO BASIC 6 is a bigger and generally better model than my previous 820 which ran out of memory for ever larger maps. Traffic, cameras & maps all work well. The only frustration if the difficulty of attaching/detaching from the holder without causing holder to come off the screen. Why on earth did they abandon the VERY simple and fool-proof magnetic holder on the 820? Otherwise excellent.

… and I was able to set it up, go for a short test drive and back home within half an hour. Expected it to be far more complicated. The voiceover was perfect too. If only all gadgets had such simple instructions.

Usual tomtom quality, really happy with my purchase. Bought to replace the one I’ve abused for that last 5 years and finally reached it’s last destination.
Screen clarity could be improved upon, screen not so clear as my mobile phone..
The advantage of this satnav is that it picks up it’s position in most places, whereas the mobile relies on a good signal..
This has to be the best SatNav I’ve had. Sure you can get cheaper but you’re not just paying for the TomTom name here, it’s simply a great little device.

The advancement in performance and features In the light of experience and re-design over the last six years or so, have obviously benefited the product and it’s a joy to use. Faster, with visual and audible information provided in a better, more useful format. Also, I chose the 7 inch screen which I find an real asset. Essential features for me are the ability to build easily a directory of favourite destinations and the now automatic list of ‘Points of Interest’ surrounding a chosen destination.
The best navigation device I have bought very easy to use and understand. But the best thing of all is the lifetime updates are so easy to obtain just allow device to connect to Wi-fi it searches for latest updates and at the press of the screen update downloads and installs new update software. No connecting to computers finding site then updates and then trying to download which quite often failed. I would highly recommend this device well done to TomTom

The only downside seems to be the battery life as I seem to have to plug it in for anything over an hour in journey time. I have taken wrong turns before (on the motorway), but once you get to understand the commands, it’s easy. It’ll re-route in a matter of seconds if you go the wrong way which is good. Would 100% recommend

OK so the only reason I bought this was because I was fed up of having to plug my old satnav into my laptop to download updates. With this baby it’s simple over your house wifi. No hassle and the app on my phone that links with the satnav is very good too. Without touching the satnav I can plan a course on my phone and zap it to the satnav. Great price. Free updates for life apparently.
New car did not have built in Sat nav. Always used TomTom. Screen has changed and optional colours a bit wishy washy but can get used to. No issues with accuracy but it does lead you through country lanes. Updated through Wi-Fi so no computer or sd card needed. Suggest use in conjunction with a road map to plan best route.
I still prefer a separate sat nav to Google maps. This is the best TomTom yet. Instructions are clear as ever and using data from your mobile saves funding a separate SIM contract. The display of average speed during roadworks is brilliant! Shame it doesn’t have lifetime speed cameras

Well good luck, because it misreads where you tap, is either under sensitive or over sensitive and scrolling down is more difficult than it needs to be, if it even lets you scroll down.

at first this sat nav didn’t work at all, it wouldn’t track the car as it was moving and I had done all the updates. So in desperation I reset the device to factory settings, which interestingly didn’t lose the updates and now its working fine. We’ve used this device to travel from Cornwall to Lincolshire and back and its working great – so if your’s doesn’t work at first then persevere and make sure all the updates are done, and then try the reset. would still recommend this device as i love the fact that you don’t need to plug it into a laptop for updates so much easier.
This is my 3rd Tom Tom in about 15 years. Easier to read at 6 inch but not as intuitive to use because it is more complex. I am getting the hang of it now. Strangely it will not work when plugged into the usb in the radio which is the nearest one. Both the other ones did. Can’t change the car, so I am now a blue arrow & don’t seem to be able to change the warning sounds, but maybe I haven’t discovered that bit ye
I purchased this Tom Tom due to the fact that the sat Nav in my jaguar was not in my opinion explicit enough. You also needed to drop your sight line down. The Tom Tom can be fixed at eye level, it is clear to read, the voice is very clear, can be updated easily.
( The jaguar update cost 160 A TIME. So the choice was obvious. Tom Tom every time. P.S. The other advantage you can take it with you no matter which car you may be in.
After the initial difficulty with getting maps downloaded, I took it on holiday. I was a solo traveler who could not speak the language and TomTom was invaluable at guiding me through narrow streets to places I wanted to see and back to the hotel. I am terrible at reading maps, so the instructions were essential. TomTom’s pronunciation of French streets was so funny as well
We’re happy with this Satnav. We particularly like the fact that updates are included in the price. It can be a little slow to come up with alternative routes and occasionally goes haywire for a few seconds, but as I say, we find this quite acceptable in a relatively basic model. We also like the little diagram at the side that tells you where the next petrol station is. It takes a little time to learn to set it and use the functions, but I think this would be the same with any piece of kit that has a range of functions. Once that’s done, well, we find it good.

Set up was simple but the initial upload/update of the unit took a few hours. I had to leave it plugged into the computer overnight to do its thing. Since then though, updates have been really quick and have only taken a couple of minutes.

Had the old sat nav for about 8 years then told tomtom were not supporting my model so decided to go for the tomtom go basic 6 inch.
Well worth the extra money i like that it now has an ap on the phone and all you have to do is speak to the ap and it shows you your route and sends it to the device through Blootooth well recomended.

I wanted an easy to use satnav to use locally with no complications. This TomTom GO basic suits me very well. So far I am very pleased with it.
Voice is loud enough and gives plenty of warning also nice that there is a variety of voices
The product write up said you could link to a smart phone and lap top,but what as far as I could see only if you use an I phone not an android and it only works with a windows system and not chrome.
As to using the system that works okay.

The Italian map not very update, and made mistakes. Tried to take us down vineyard very minor tracks. It’s slow finding we’re we were, and often we drove off waiting for it to walk up. Not as good as previous older model, I nearly sent it back!

I opted to purchase the air vent mount for it rather than attaching it to the windscreen, and found this to be an excellent alternative. It comes in two parts. One part attaches to the air vent, and the other (incorporating a ball and socket joint) attaches to the satnav, and in use simply clips on or off the part attached to the air vent in order to mount or remove the satnav. To attach this second part to the satnav, simply detach the stand that comes with the satnav, and fit the air vent mount instead. Note that the ball bearing type joint has a section removed from it, so adjust the position of this to make removal of the fitted stand easy, and likewise the fitting of the air vent socket joint. You will also need to reverse the direction of the detachable back plate.
The Basic model does take a microSD card, but the slot is tucked away under the detachable back plate and not immediately obvious until you look carefully. If necessary you can also check out the TomTom youTube video which shows where to find the memory card slot.. The TomTom site gives information on compatible memory cards .
All in all I am very happy with this purchase, and it has proved its value on a recent trip which provided an opportunity to get familiar with the satnav and see how how it performed on an unfamiliar journey and destination.

This replaces my satnav of 10 years. (Not a Tom Tom) Obviously technology has moved on but this is easier to use and very quick to adjust if we take a different route. Used it in France and this was excellent.
I went for the tom tom as i had one before and the old was ok did the job but this new one is much better and is bigger and has a few ew thing and has improved the workings of this sat nav
It’s great once I’ve managed to programme in where I’m heading too but I’m finding it difficult to use it easily. I’m sure there must be a way to go from A to B and select the route you want (where there are several options) but I’m just not sure how to do this. I’m quite sure this is due to my age and the fact I’m not very natsav savvy!

So it works perfectly but it’s a bit delayed as you start your car takes time to give instructions you have to wait for like 5 minutes before it starts to show the directions but once started it’s perfect ….
The GO BASIC 6 is a bigger and generally better model than my previous 820 which ran out of memory for ever larger maps. Traffic, cameras & maps all work well. The only frustration if the difficulty of attaching/detaching from the holder without causing holder to come off the screen. Why on earth did they abandon the VERY simple and fool-proof magnetic holder on the 820? Otherwise excellent.

Purchased this on an Amazon deal, early days yet but very easy to use and intuitive.
The screen is more Windows Paintbrush than Retena in terms of resolution but clear enough to get the job done effectively.
I have been using an app on the phone for quite some time but on a recent trip to the coast ran out of coverage and of course the app stopped working so had to resort to the trusty old map.
The satnav is of course no match for modern phone app navigation but if you visit locations with patchy coverage this is a very good backup.
At 99.99 you can’t go wrong with a TomTom.
Purchased this on an Amazon deal, early days yet but very easy to use and intuitive.
The screen is more Windows Paintbrush than Retena in terms of resolution but clear enough to get the job done effectively.

Well it works pretty my as you might hope, but I purchased it to replace a failed TT 600, although a lot less money it’s certainly a lesser product.

Only had it for 5 weeks.
It’s one of the more simple versions of a sat nav but it does everything you need. I like this product particularly because it doesn’t need a computer to get going just internet.
… and I was able to set it up, go for a short test drive and back home within half an hour. Expected it to be far more complicated. The voiceover was perfect too. If only all gadgets had such simple instructions.
Very pleased larger screen than my last one, all updates very relevant.
It’s a nice investment . Not as accurate as Google maps and search engine not as good , but overall a better experience than a Google man on phone .
Reminds me on over speeding and about speed cameras . Good for long journeys . Touch screen definitely not as good as a smartphones but a nice little addition .

Usual tomtom quality, really happy with my purchase. Bought to replace the one I’ve abused for that last 5 years and finally reached it’s last destination.
Good quality product easy to set up and use and great value it was a used one warehouse deal and just like new condition so I am a happy custome
Screen clarity could be improved upon, screen not so clear as my mobile phone..
The advantage of this satnav is that it picks up it’s position in most places, whereas the mobile relies on a good signal..
This has to be the best SatNav I’ve had. Sure you can get cheaper but you’re not just paying for the TomTom name here, it’s simply a great little device.
It’s so simple to set up and navigate without loads of unnecessary features but also has everything you need.
I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Easy to set up with the WiFi connection. Replaced my previous TomTom which is no longer supported, maps for life is good. Only used it on a couple of trips so far but no problem, maybe it’s a familiarity issue but it does seem less intuitive than previous versions but overall a good buy
Needed to replace my previous TomTom as it was ‘obsoleted’. The advancement in performance and features In the light of experience and re-design over the last six years or so, have obviously benefited the product and it’s a joy to use. Faster, with visual and audible information provided in a better, more useful format. Also, I chose the 7 inch screen which I find an real asset. Essential features for me are the ability to build easily a directory of favourite destinations and the now automatic list of ‘Points of Interest’ surrounding a chosen destination.
The best navigation device I have bought very easy to use and understand. But the best thing of all is the lifetime updates are so easy to obtain just allow device to connect to Wi-fi it searches for latest updates and at the press of the screen update downloads and installs new update software. No connecting to computers finding site then updates and then trying to download which quite often failed. I would highly recommend this device well done to TomTom
OK so the only reason I bought this was because I was fed up of having to plug my old satnav into my laptop to download updates. With this baby it’s simple over your house wifi. No hassle and the app on my phone that links with the satnav is very good too. Without touching the satnav I can plan a course on my phone and zap it to the satnav. Great price. Free updates for life apparently.
New car did not have built in Sat nav. Always used TomTom. Screen has changed and optional colours a bit wishy washy but can get used to. No issues with accuracy but it does lead you through country lanes. Updated through Wi-Fi so no computer or sd card needed. Suggest use in conjunction with a road map to plan best route.
I still prefer a separate sat nav to Google maps. This is the best TomTom yet. Instructions are clear as ever and using data from your mobile saves funding a separate SIM contract. The display of average speed during roadworks is brilliant! Shame it doesn’t have lifetime speed cameras
I’ve had Tom Tom my whole driving life, with my last one being 40 less than this and lasting seven years. I only needed a new one after it got stolen from my car. – So safe to say I was really disappointed in this.
Never the less, when you’re actually on the road towards a destination, it’s one of the best sat navs out there. It tells you well within good time about turnings and exits off of roundabouts, which lane to be in etc with a great little zoom in too. You can’t underestimate how good a sat nav is, when it lets you know where you’re going, a few steps ahead. Nothing worse then coming off a slip road in the left and then finding out you’re meant to be taking the third exit off of a roundabout when you’re now stuck in the left lane going left only, because the sat nav only told you to come off the motorway and not the next step.
So if you’ve got the patience to tap billions of times before you are able to select your destination, then this is worth every penny. It also isn’t as good as my old sat nav in terms of data entry…put in a postcode and it doesn’t offer up a chance to choose which number or street!

at first this sat nav didn’t work at all, it wouldn’t track the car as it was moving and I had done all the updates. So in desperation I reset the device to factory settings, which interestingly didn’t lose the updates and now its working fine. We’ve used this device to travel from Cornwall to Lincolshire and back and its working great – so if your’s doesn’t work at first then persevere and make sure all the updates are done, and then try the reset. would still recommend this device as i love the fact that you don’t need to plug it into a laptop for updates so much easier.
This is my 3rd Tom Tom in about 15 years. Easier to read at 6 inch but not as intuitive to use because it is more complex. I am getting the hang of it now. Strangely it will not work when plugged into the usb in the radio which is the nearest one. Both the other ones did. Can’t change the car, so I am now a blue arrow & don’t seem to be able to change the warning sounds, but maybe I haven’t discovered that bit ye
( The jaguar update cost 160 A TIME. So the choice was obvious. Tom Tom every time. P.S. The other advantage you can take it with you no matter which car you may be in.
We felt it that it was well worth the extra price for the 6 inch screen.
Set up was simple but the initial upload/update of the unit took a few hours. I had to leave it plugged into the computer overnight to do its thing. Since then though, updates have been really quick and have only taken a couple of minutes.
The 6 inch screen is ideal and glad I didn’t go any smaller than that. Probably could have bought something cheaper but wanted a good, reliable and brand name for a sat nav. like this one.
I wish there was a simple volume adjustment wheel at the side of the casing so that volume could be quickly adjusted without having to remember icons and menu paths.
One other thing to note is that although this is advertised as having free lifetime traffic and maps, that does not include speed camera updates, after three months you would have to pay extra for those. Also, “lifetime”, according to the TomTom website is “the period of time that TomTom continues to support your device with software updates, services, content or accessories.” For our last device, this was about six years.

Well worth the extra money i like that it now has an ap on the phone and all you have to do is speak to the ap and it shows you your route and sends it to the device through Blootooth well recomended.

+ screen is large and very clear but reflects the light a little. Better than a phone screen, but not as good as a Kindle, for example. It wasnt particularly detrimental.
+ adding navigation points and rest break is super easy.
+ services and roadworks/congestion shows up on your “timeline” (the vertical bar on the right that describes your journey). Theres even a timer to how long it is till your next “event” (queue, service station etc)
+ instantly finds GPS where my old one had difficulty
+ maintains signal to GPS when mobile phone navigation would have long failed.
– Operates on “TomTom Minutes”, in which your journey time increases with no reason, even if you’re consistently ‘making good time’ *cough*. Example – 1hr 30 slowly worked up to 1hr40 even though there was no traffic
– Takes a while to boot up – about 20 seconds or more, when turned off (theres a sleep modem however i didnt try it)
– screen is not as sensitive to use as a phone screen. need a bit of pressure to work
– notifications for…something… seem to beep randomly without a corresponding event on screen
