My son has spent hours building this. He has needed help on some parts as you need more than one set of hands at time to hold it still while you tighten the bolts. My son got all the way to last few steps and was missing a piece. I think this was more down to him building it in multiple rooms. Couldn’t find the missing but and impossible to order replacements so we bought a different kit and just hope it has the piece he needs. I would definitely recommend this. Great advancement from Lego.

A super meccano model which has transported me back to my childhood. There’s been some technical improvements in these over the past 25 years, but fundamentally still a model building kit which will provide plenty of fun for all ages.
Mon mari adorait petit la marque mccano et tait tout content de faire dcouvrir notre fils. Cependant ce n’est plus comme avant, dj tout n’est pas en fer, il y a des parties en plastique, ce n’est pas grave mais cela n’a plus le mme rendu. Au niveau notice, ce n’est pas toujours trs claire et un enfant seul mme de 10 ans peut avoir besoin d’aide. Le rendu est correct pour le modle (difficult moyenne) qu’ils avaient choisi. L’intrt c’est qu’il y a dans cette boite 25 modles possibles et a c’est vraiment chouette pour se faire la main et voir si l’on veut poursuivre avec la marque meccano en achetant d’autre kit.
No parts missing.
Battery replacement isn’t hard. Remove the 4 bolts which attach the forward chassis and you can access the battery compartment with ease.
Instructions easily followed IF you have encountered Meccano before. I would not recommend this as your first kit.
Certainly if you are not paying attention you will do things which result in problems. The drivetrain and supporting structure in particular needs to be carefully aligned so that it does not jam.
The kits primary focus is to make a car which looks good and moves. It achieves this. However there are too many plastic components and friction joins to say that this is robust. The motor is quite underpowered for the weight so a crawl is all you get.
I think Spin Master need to refocus Meccano back into mostly metal so that they can make robust models. Reading reviews this is what people want. If we wanted plastic we’d buy Lego.

There are only instructions for 3 models.
It seems a bit naughty.
But apart from that it’s dead good, engaging for boys.
This is a really nice piece of kit. Labelled for ages 10+ and fortunately I am.
If one were being hypercritical of Meccano it could be described as physical sudoku.
For me it’s an engaging and sensible developmental toy. Luckily the young reviewer agreed with me. Not so much hours of fun as weeks of it. Definitely STEM friendly, the anecdote used to be that playing with this stuff got you into the Engineering tripos.
This is really suitable to build with an adult and child, as it’s a bit fiddly in places. Our son in law built it with our six year old grandson, and they had a great time putting it together. Le mcano est compos de plus de trois cent pices , certaines sont mtalliques , d’autres en plastique , il y a des panneaux , des vis , des boulons , des roues , des petites pices mcaniques , quelques poulies, des rivets en plastique …
Ainsi qu’un bloc en plastique contenant un moteur lectrique fonctionnant avec 4 piles AAA non fournies .
On a aussi deux outils une clef pour boulons carrs que je n’ai pas utilis , je trouve que mes doigts sont plus efficaces et une clef six pans qui elle est m’a t tres utile .
Une notice de montage est fournie . Sur cette notice trois modles sont disponibles avec trois niveaux de difficult , rouge difficile , bleu moyen , et vert facile .
Avec ce kit il est possible de raliser 25 modles differents , on peut telecharger les differentes notices de montages individuellement sur le site de la marque . J’ai bien observ , a me semble tout fait cohrent avec les pices en prsence . Except la couleur des pices , rouge ici et bleu pour d’autres modles
J’ai choisi le plus facile pour commencer le vert , il n’y a pas de moteur installer , la voiture a trois roues , et il m’a fallu environ deux heures pour en venir bout .
Les notices sont hyper bien faites , il suffit juste de bien observer les dessins et de ne pas louper les dtails en particulier le sens dans lesquelles il faut placer vis et pices .. A chaque petit module construire , sont indiques et reprsentes les pices dont on aura besoin . Les vis sont mme l’chelle 1 et la bonne couleur ( argent ou noir ) , il suffit de les superposer sur le schma pour tre sur de son coup ,et au bout de vingt minutes on finit par les connaitre par coeur , S1 ; S2 ; ;S3 ; B1 , etc .
Les voitures sont plus nues que je ne l’avais imagin mais MECCANO c’est surtout de la mcanique et elles ont parfaitement roulantes .Mme les pneus et les jantes sont monter et ce n’est pas si facile que a .
” partir dix ans” a me semble parfaitement cohrent avec mon ressenti .
En tout cas c’est une excellente initiation la construction mcanique et j’ai beaucoup aim .
Et le grand plus de ce jeu de construction c’est que avec 25 modles , on en a pour des dizaines d’heures et clairement pour son argent .
Je vais videment prolonger l’exprience avec d’autres modles , j’ai tres envie de voir ce que a donne avec un moteur , nous sommes le 16 aout 2021 , je viendrais donc faire une ou des mise jour en temps voulu .
Good kit but spoilt by the fact that there are not enough instructions for all the cars you can make.
It will be a case of trail and error and we all love to mess about so I am sure we will have a lot of fun with this.
I think it’s the led lights that really makes this one stand out from the others. They’re so clear and sharp which just adds to the overall look and appeal.

Hours of fu
An excellent construction set for all ages above 12yrs, without adult assistance. The possibility of building up to 25 different vehicles which are motorized. All parts seem to be tough enough n well designed for purpose. One criticism being that the battery pack is inaccessible once fitted so batteries need loading beforehand n thus if run down can’t be changed without deconstructing vehicle!
Got this for my partners 10 year old he struggles a little but great fun building it.

Bought this for my 11-year old son. He could build most of it, but there were parts where he needed help (especially putting the tyres on, connecting the LED pipes to the engine and the axle with its gears to the engine).
Definitely more like half a day’s work and not 2-3 hours. The metal parts are nice, and the model itself is beautiful. There was 1 piece missing, but we could work around it as a temporary fix and have contacted Spinmaster Customer Support for this. Let’s see how they will respond.
There is no room for error when putting in the rear axle, and a (too) tight fit overall between axle, cog wheels and washers. Because the alignment is not 100%, there is too much friction around the rear axle, the motor isn’t running smoothly when all is assembled, and sometimes gets stuck. So maybe something to consider for Meccano. But overall a nice model to spend several hours on!
Great product but poor packaging ie the box had no outer cover and the address label was stuck onto the box. It took steaming and sticky stuff remover to make the object presentable for giving as a gift.
Last minute stocking filler for 12 year old mad on cars, excellent quality as you would expect from Meccano, husband had more fun helping building it than he would admit, lots of different ways to build a vehicle, good value for money

The quality of the product is sound – and I can not find a single fault with it.
This was the first my son used Meccano and he loved it although it is not remote control. Also the car is quite slow, it is still fun to play with. What you might not like is that it is almost impossible to take out the batteries the only way you can is if you take almost the whole car. Long time to build. Recommended for people who have patience and are up for a challenge.
If possible could you make the car faster and a remote control version?

Great fun. Much better than a Lego set because it doesn’t fall apart.
There are a few designs within the box, and there are multiple others online that can be downloaded. Great for young builders who like making and remaking. Instructions are very clear and the final result looks cool.
My son is 9 and found this quite tricky. Was able to make it with his daddy but I think daddy liked it more!
The remote control feature is a nice touch, quite slow but good.

Good toy. The hardware is big enough for the fingers tips, better quality than any other Meccano I have seen, and the endless optionality (25 portions) is exciting. Great for an10 year old.
You know meccano was great when I was a kid. It was metal, and tangible and you could make anything with it. The principles of good model / engineering / design making are updated for 2019 with this pack, with the addition of a motor and the potential to make a variety of different designs.
The stuff is less metal more plastic now, but this is good quality stuff. There are lots of parts to lose (but this was always the way) so work from a tray and be sure you have everything before you start.
The designs are great 3in the box and a bunch more online and the instructions are clear and a little taxing. This will take time to build – but take the time with your little one and it will come – a build of patience and learning and a lesson in perseverance.
I learned a lot of life lessons from my early meccano experiences (always preferred to Lego and Airfix) and those lessons prevail. Invest in this and then invest the time to learn (again) with your little one. You will be rewarded.

He took it off and was able to do it himself, great educational toy which they can learn lots from making. would hightly recommend as a great Christmas present for any hands on boys of this age

This is a great kit. Good quality and lots of fun. The different versions of the car means it will provide enjoyment for quite some time which makes it great value for money. Would make a fabulous gift.
To be clear, this is NOT remote controlled.
There are actually instructions included for just two versions, but the rest are available on the website – I imagine this will be a lot trickier to use unless you print them off.
There are definitely some trickier parts to the basic build though the included tools, the nut holder in particular, do the best they can to help.
Getting the tyres onto the wheels is not for the fainthearted and required levering with a screwdriver to complete.
Once built the battery compartment is inaccessible so changing the batteries is going to require an almost complete disassembly.
To be honest the fun comes from building the thing. Once completed the wheels were never all that secure and it had a habit of self-braking when the front wheels turned (you can tighten these up to stop them turning but even then I still had problems) and in fact I had a hard time getting the two main drive gears meshing.
At top speed this isn’t exactly quick.
As I said, if you’re just interested in building this as a medium difficult project then you’ll be satisfied. If you intend to set world speed records with the finished toy then prepare for disappointment.
Excellent and really good fun for young and old. teaches the skills to use tools, Fix a motor on the models and they also have headlights – you get 25 models in 1 in this box. A great gift for anyone who loves building projects. Bring them to a new level with this new multi speed motor and led lights .
I agree with a previous reviewer: this set comprises of a large portion of rigid plastic parts as opposed the their usual metal equivalents.
I don’t see this as a huge problem, it makes it all the more versatile. Hence it’s a 25 in 1 set.
The plastic parts are strong and durable – the quality you would expect if you’re a longterm Meccano user, like us.
A portion is also made of *flexible*, bendy plastic parts. These are necessary to make the set accommodate so many different models in one box and I think the mix of metal and plastic in this set looks rather funky on the builds.
These can be snapped if bent too much if you have fiddly children, but no different to the metal parts which can warp too if bent. It’s just common sense.
The instructions manual is well put together with detailed imagery, similar in layout to the Lego Creations manuals.
My ten year old certainly enjoyed it! He hasn’t built all 25 yet, but its keeping him well engaged as he’s really into DT. Every now and then, he needs an extra pair of hands to assist with a tricky bit, but I think it’s been aged correctly: from 10+ and he’s relishing in the challenge.
As some reviews have expressed; I think I should also mention, I have had no broken or missing parts. The box is brand new and sealed, even along the sides.
