I have several 100mm drain pipes in the earth that eventually fill with earth & debris.
I have been looking for something to clean them out for a long time. This works like a dream.
    Highly recommended.

Eats through soil and clay ground. Set your drill to slow speed if you hit rocky stoney ground it will jam up and twist your wrist and arm. Worked well for me, it’s well made and strong, keep checking the chuck is tight!

I dug so many plants that was deep rooted. This saved me so much and time. Honestly it was fun to. Albeit until the drill gets stuck. Now I was silly to have it on hammer drill max setting. Not a good idea. The kickback could of bin lethal

I’m not getting any younger and this is great, we have heavy clay soil but these make light work of making holes in the boarders ready for you just to pop your plants in.

Great accessory especially if you have a cordless drill.

Used this to dig holes for my kids climbing frame securing posts. Best way to use is to jab in and out as you go along otherwise you can 9vertorque your drill. Obviously if you have lots of big stones you will struggle. Well worth the money and made my life a lot easier. Would buy again.

It does what is required very well but do use a sturdy drill with speed control and a firm steadying handle as the drill will twist from your grip in clay and stoney soil. In light soils it is OK but the spoil will fall back into deep holes. It’s good for pre-loosening of ground for digging out for fence posts and wider holes and for turning over compost in a compost bin.

Planted 100 allium bulbs in about 30 minutes with this. Well I drilled the holes and got the kids to drop the bulbs in holes after me. 😉 Wish I’d bought one years ago. No fighting with hard soil and clay. Pulls smaller pebbles and stones up with the soil. Worth setting on a slower speed though. Just incase it did jam it won’t hurt your wrist.

Works well in clay or loamy soil but be careful if there are large stones. The helix doesn’t shift them and the drill tends to rotate as the auger stops. Best to use regular in/out movements to clear the waste.

Worked perfectly. One drawback, my drill doesn’t have a speed setting the speed is controlled by how much pressure you put on the trigger. Sometimes you squeeze to hard and it goes deeper than you want!

a strong little tool which speeds up planting quantities of bulbs but remember two things…-1) you need to fill the hole in with good earth to complete the job and 2) Avoid areas where tree/or shrub roots are likely to be as the tool quickly grips these and tries to take you with it!!

Using the auger allowed us to plant well over a hundred daffodil bulbs in about 4hours. Using my 18vot battery drill meant there was high torque to the actual hole, leaving us with about a 30mm dia opening to drop the bulbs nicely to the bottom and covering them with the soil that had spiralled its way out of the ground.
Excellent product, very strong and easily used.

easy to reach the desired depth , clogs a little with mud, bu tsimply continuing to drill next hole solves this.

Definately recommend rahter than using a dibber!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI used it to help remove soil from post hole tight to fence. Was putting in 7 of the short concrete repair posts to bolt to existing wooden post. Removed old cement with chiselling drill and because soil was wet and compacted bought this item to help remove the soil. Very difficult with post hole spade, just compacted through being wet. Worked a treat, removed about 4″ depth at a time, then used the post hole shovel to enlarge the hole. The spiral pulled the earth up nicely which because wet stuck to the spiral. I’ll be honest, I thought after reading reviews the spigot that goes in the drill would probably break but by using a drill with an auto clutch no problem. Saved a lot of hassle and time. I gave it 4 stars for sturdiness because as an engineer I can see the spigot was its weak point and also fitted not particularly true and if in ground with any heavy side ways force would probably snap off, if you have a drill with a clutch use it as no problems that way, try and drill straight and pull out straight rather than wiggle it about.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersWe have very hard tough clay soil, which is fairly soft after a weeks rain,so ideal for planting daffodill bulbs,I bought the auger which makes approx 2 inch diameter holes, and used a DE Walt 18 volt battery powered drill,it really works only snag is that its too short if you suffer with a bad back or due to age like me, cannot kneel down . On the net I found a video showing how to use an auger,it was filmed in the USA and it showed that an extension was available in the USA ,they usually have everything out there. So I got 15 inches of steel rod and made my own extension,Its now very easy to use for a 79 year old chap like me,made a few test holes yesterday,it went in easily, did not clog up,made a clean round hole and the drill coped quite easily ,by drilling with an auger the soil is not compacted at the bottom of the hole, which does happen if holes are made with a crowbar or similar pointed tool, also with a flat bottomed hole the bulb roots are in contact with the soil, So its a very good tool, which works far better than I thought it would

Used this to dig holes for raised bed support posts in the garden. It struggled a bit as soon as you hit any rock bigger than an inch or two (the hole expanded a bit and had to be cleared a bit by hand) but made lovely clean holes where rocks were not a problem. The shaft did bend a bit once or twice near the drill chuck but could be bent back by hand well enough to dampen the worst vibrations. I only really bought this for the one job. I think I dug about 20 holes with it in some fairly demanding ground and it would probably do the same again before it gives up. It certainly made planting the posts much much quicker and they’re probably much sturdier than they would be if I’d dig the holes by hand. Definitely use a sturdy corded drill.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersBought this to help dig anchor points for concreting in a kids climbing frame, the climbing frame was too heavy to move so I had restricted access trying to get a spade in around the corners without damaging the wood.

This worked a treat on my 18v Dewalt cordless, it went straight through the layer of top soil and to my surprise it even churned through the 3 or 4 inch layer of compacted stones which had previously covered our back garden (the previous owners used it as a car park). It then went straight into the think wet clay below and helped pull out lumps of clay with ease. Really surprised how well it worked.

The first corner took well over an hour to dig out with a pick and a trowel, with the help of this auger the other 3 corners took less than 15min each.
Really wish I had this a few years ago when I was digging out fence posts

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersOverall very good and easy to use. We have clay soil with a lot of stones but these were not a problem with the auger. Until now I had been using traditional bulb planters, long handled and hand planters, but they are not as efficient because if you hit stones you have to dig them out to continue, and in my case there are loads. Now with the auger planting bulbs is a breeze.

My reason for minus one star is the length – I bought a long one (37cm) but I need to bend my back. I started having a backache while planting 140 spring bulbs, so I decided to sit on a low stool, then the auger was too long. Otherwise, it is a very efficient gardening tool and I even enjoyed using it. It was also useful to remove deep rooted weeds found while doing the planting job. I may buy another size next year.

Golden Review Award: 158 From Our UsersTIP: if you have a sore back perhaps buy the larger size.

This was smaller than I thought, so has involved a lot of bending over.

The auger itself appears well made and is a nice weight. The effectiveness really depends upon the quality of your drill. I have an expensive brushless branded drill. I tried it on hard December soil and it drilled a nice hole with ease.

I’m guessing a cheap drill would make things much tougher, so take this into consideration.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersI had 600 tulip bulbs to plant in a recently cleared bed – full of old roots so not the easiest to dig. Bought a so called bulb planter which failed after 3 bulbs and needed to be bent into shape again, any way gave up and continued with a small fork and a trowel, had done 320 bulbs in over 4 hours and got a huge blister on my hand. Ordered this and planted the remaining 280 in less than hour! Wish I’d had this in the first place would have saved a lot of pain and time and does a neater job. Lets face it this is a bit of metal so more of a five star review of the method than the actual product. If you want to plant something that matches the size then this is definately the tool for the job.

This auger is well made and requires a powerful drill to make holes in the earth when planting bulbs.
Because of its diameter one needs to take care when drilling into soil as it is easy to twist your wrist if you have not set a torque setting on the drill.
