Adds speed to your prints makes your creality printer wireless what’s not to like

The Creality Sonic Pad upgrades your Creality printer (only certain models) to Klipper firmware, which allows you to increase your printer speed and quality along with a whole host of other customisable features. When i discovered it supported the Ender 5 S1 i ordered immediately!

I was super excited to install this on my printer. Installation was super easy, it was pretty much plug and play and the sonic pad walks you through how to upgrade the firmware in your printer. The process was quick and painless.

The pad itself is gorgeous. Super bright clear touchscreen display. Very easy to navigate around the different settings, i was immediately impressed! You can pretty much do everything you need to do on the pad itself from adjusting temperatures, levelling, print details etc. It really does work very very well.

The sonic pad is wifi and when connected in cura with the moonraker plugin you can wireless control the pritner from your PC/Phone. I can now send my print gcode directly to the printer from my laptop over wifi – the sonic pad is worth it for this feature alone! Once setup you even get a 3D model of your print on the display which i absolutely love! I also plugged in an old webcam and it worked without any setup whatsoever – i can now either use the local LAN IP Address or Cura to view a live video of the print – Amazing! You can even record time lapses straight to the sonic, which again i absolutely love!

Configuring the sonic pad for faster prints i found difficult – there are no instructions on how to do this included. Is it automatic out of the box or do you need to change settings? Creality have not made this clear at all. There is not much community advice on this currently as it’s a fairly new product – i did watch a few online videos and copied some settings across into cura – but i have no idea if i have done this correctly. Creality do have some cura profiles on their website for the sonic pad, also the Creality print software has Sonic Pad integration built in, however no fast print profiles are available for the ender 5 S1. The sonic pad recognised the Ender 5 S1 without issue. I contacted Creality to see if they could provide me with the Ender 5 S1 profiles for fast printing but the reply was of no revevance to my questiion! I love creality, but if they are releasing a product that is advertised to be fully compatible with the Ender 5 then why have they not included the profiles for the printer on the website? I hope they update the download section very soon with the fast print profiles.

I have tinkered around with the settings based on a few videos i have watched – is the printing faster? By Jove YES! I have absolutely no idea if i have done it correctly but it got a vase print down from 4 days to 15hrs!!! Amazing. Quality was good, but clearly not as good as a 4 day print. You can see from my review pics the inside of the vase is pretty rough but outside is almost fine – there was a layer shift which is very noticeable, but this may be vibration caused. I did use the accelerometer during setup which allows the printer to compensate for the vibrations as high speeds. I did however max out the acceleration to 5000mm/s and the print speed to the max of my printer 250mm/s. For the speed this thing printed at the end result massively exceeded my expectations!

In summary this is an excellent product, unfortunately it needs a lot more support from Creality. If you have the Ender 3 then you will have more luck as it appears the settings are all fully downloadable from the website.

I hope you found my review helpful.

Looked to get a Raspberry Pi and touchscreen but the price is ridiculous now. This does the same for what is now a great pricepoint.

Klipper gives all sorts of extra features over stock Marlin, and the speed I can now print at is way better for me, slow speeds were driving me mad.

The initial setup was a bit of a pain but I knew nothing about Klipper. Now I know it would be a lot easier. I’m very happy I have this and it’s made using my 3d printer way better. I did try Octoprint before this which was great, definitely recommend that too if you can’t stretch to this, al though they do different things.

Great Upgrade for my 3d Printers, excellent results and super fast speed’s with both my Ender 3 v2 with Sprite fitted, and my CR-10. Great features and easy to use and setup.

I received the Sonic Pad but there was an issue with the sensor/cable. I was unable to measure the resonance. I was going to send it back, but I reached out to the seller indicating the issue. The seller responded quickly and sent a replacement sensor/cable with fasteners with tracking information. After installing the new parts, I was able to run the resonance measurement and everything is working great.
