Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’ve used the RC and RC-N1 extensively prior to getting the RC-Pro, so I’m familiar with how they operate. And I was happy with them, but I needed an HDMI out option badly enough for me to switch out to the RC Pro for my Mini 3 Pro. And I’ve now had this a while and am pretty familiar with this one.

There are a lot of plusses (and a few minuses) with this one over the others. Aside from the clean HDMI output (in 1080p), it has a lot more features not found on the others. No need to list them here, and there are a lot of resources that cover them already out there.

This review will focus on differences I have noted between this and the other remotes, rather than a tedious breakdown of all the capabilities you can find anywhere. Your experience may vary.

HDMI- As I mentioned, it’s the only one compatible with the M3P that has this. I need it for my live streams. It easily wins here. HDMI out right into my Yolobox Pro works flawlessly.

Customization- Again, easily wins here. A lot of buttons with a lot of things you can use them for. More than I’ll need as an amateur, no doubt. I’ve set a few, and there are so many more, I can’t even think of uses for them at this time. That’s a lot.

Comfort- This is where give-and-take comes in. I find this is a lot more comfortable in my hands. Holding it, slappin’ the sticks, and reaching the button locations is more natural and ergonomic to me than the other remotes. The C1 and C2 buttons are a bit too easy to press accidentally, so you need to sort of train yourself a little on how to avoid that. But that’s not a knock in my book. Where it falls short is the weight. Without a neck strap, fatigue sets in fairly quickly on long flights. I can get 40+ minutes per M3P battery, and I often have it up that long. This thing is relatively heavy, and you feel it over time much more than with the DJI RC. The N1 also had weight issues for me, but that was because it was also holding a big tablet I used as the screen. The DJI RC wins in the long term comfort/less fatigue area.

Battery life- This is one of two big issues I have with this fella. After maybe two hours of total use, I am close to one bar on the remote battery. Yes, I can charge it of course, but I expected better life from the battery than I get in the field. Same flight times with the RC netted more life. I’m sure this is due to the limited functionality of it compared to the RC Pro, but I hoped for similar discharge rates. Maybe more horsepower would have made it way too heavy. I don’t know. RC and N1 win here.

Range- This is the other big issue I have. Regardless of how I position the antennas, and however the transmission bands are set, it has by my estimation about 15% less range than I got with the RC and N1 units. I don’t know why this is, but I tested the same M3P with the RC and the RC Pro in similar situations, and found I got more range overall with the RC. It’s definitely not a deal breaker since I don’t fly enormous distances, but there are people that do, and I think they would find this interesting. I’m open to ideas as to why, and how to get better range without modifying the unit. I’ve seen others on the internet state the same issue. RC and N1 win here.

Heat- It gets hot during use, more so than the RC and N1. This is likely due to the bright screen and extra brain power, but it’s noteworthy for me because I’m not used to a controller getting this hot. It does have an internal fan that kicks on, which also likely contributes to the short battery lifespan too.

In summary, this is a very nice controller with a whole lot of features and is very easy to use, and I think you would love it. But, it comes with a hefty price tag, so unless there are must-have features you can’t live without, I don’t see a huge motivation for getting this over the other remotes. If your only interest is a built in screen, go with the DJI RC. (But if you choose this anyway, you will definitely love it).

This RC Pro is perfect for me, but it may not be for you. The extra features it has above the DJI RC (RM330) are excellent, but are not required for the everyday hobbyist.

If you have a social media platform where you regularly post videos of your drone footage, this RC Pro controller IS worth the extra cost.

I really like this product, the reason I am returning this one is because the right antenna was loose and would not stay in position. I am returning this one and ordering the exact DJI RC Pro. I have 2 DJI RC controllers and 1 DHI RC Pro. I have 3 drones. The DJI Mini 3 Pro is light and takes good picture and videos. The DJI Mavic 3 Pro is heavier and bigger but takes great picture and videos with the plus of having to 2 telephoto lenses. The 3rd Drone is my beginner drone, a Eachine E520S. It is inexpensive but does not compare to my 2 DJI drones. I have my Commercial FAA 107 Drone License and love flying my drones!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery little to complain about with this piece if kit. Have wanted one, ever since they added the Mini 3 Pro, to the compatibility list and now I have the Mavic 3 classic, it’s even better. The configurable c1, c2 , 5 way etc buttons, mean less searching on the remote and more time concentrating on the flight and getting the shot…

Only little niggle, was the number if times I had to try updating over my WiFi which is not yhe best and then I tried my phones hotspot, which at first wasn’t much better, until I set it to 5 Ghz, rather than 2.8 and then all went much quicker.. but I still have to give this thing, despite it’s rather high price, 5 stars..

Have been a big fan of DJI products, since the Mavic Mini first came out and I very much doubt I will ever buy anything else, as far as drones go.

This is very well built, the screen is excellent, even in bright sunshine, the sticks feel much smoother than those of the Dji rc or rc n1.

Oh there is one tiny thing that is, at least for now, a bit disappointing.. In the blurb, it makes mention of the 4G cellular module optional purchase. However, right now, that thing is only available in mainland China and apparently in Australia.. Would be great if it was available in the UK, but as far as I know, it is not and neither is it available in Europe or the US… Only time will tell, if we, in the, UK ever get to own one… Would certainly bring back the one thing I have missed, and that’s having live maps… and of course, if you have an excellent 4G signal, then you have a far more reliable signal, than you ever will with WiFi or O3+ as DJI cellular it…Yes it will also mean unlimited range but unless you have the certification and permissions to fly beyond vlos, that is meaningless.

Anyway, if you have the money, if you have a need for the best rc dji have to offer, right now, then I recommend the DJI RC Pro.

Except for the screen there is no difference between the classic one in terms of range

The RC pro is great, better than the smart controller. Controls my Air 2 S and mini3 pro and gives me video out. Only gripe is they left off interlaced video this time ! But I love it 🙂

    Pros:
No more fiddling with mounting a phone and connecting a cable. Just switch on the RC Pro, switch on the drone and fly!

Bright screen – brighter than my (albeit) aging mobile phone

Can load Litchi and some other apps

Can install and use Microsoft OneDrive to automatically upload pictures and videos to your OneDrive cloud storage once you’ve downloaded them from the drone (I particularly love this)

Drone-Hacks has a firmware hack for this controller (to enable FCC mode)

Compatible with Mavic 3, Air 2S and Mini 3 Pro (also a con I suppose, but new drones will likely be compatible also)

    Cons:

A bit pricey. This cost more than my Air 2S

Only compatible with Mavic 3, Air 2S and Mini 3 Pro (also a Pro really if you have one of those)

Battery life isn’t fantastic and you really need a USB charger capable of 9v or 15v charging – get yourself a iQ3 charger it will charge the controller up much much quicker.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHoly Drone, this thing is expensive. With that out of the way, let’s see why it’s worth it.

I used to be quite happy flying my DJI Spark with my phone and don’t ever recall the screen dimming even on hot days. That changed, for whatever reasons, when I upgraded to the DJI Air 2S and the genuine scare of having the screen on my Samsung Note – previously impeccable with the Spark – dim to the point of being barely visible one sunny day, made me decide to investigate an alternative.

I looked at loads of tablets, but they all seemed to suffer the same problem. The RC Pro launched, but the price immediately ruled it out for me – just couldn’t justify it. I ended up getting a great deal on the Tripltek 8 Pro tablet, which was fantastic in terms of performance, but man was it top heavy and I still had the same faff of setting it up with RC-N1 controller – cables, brackets etc. But it was still way better than my phone.

After a few months, I happened to view the RC Pro here on Amazon again and was given the option to spread the cost over 12 months. As hard as I’d fought against what I still believed was a silly price, I finally caved, sold my Tripltek 8 and pumped for the RC Pro. And I couldn’t be happier.

Setup, from turning the controller / drone on to being in the air, is significantly quicker that any RC-N1 option I’d tried before, range and consistency of signal and video feed seem a lot better, screen is fantastic and the extra controls mean I rarely ever have to take my hands from the sticks now. From changing exposure to being able to tilt and zoom the camera at the same time (plus LOTS more), I can’t overstate how much better of a flight experience you get with the RC Pro.

Yes, you need to have a phone / hotspot device with you for live maps, but I always have mine with me anyway so that’s not really changed anything in terms of my operations, and the rewards detailed above far outweigh that minor inconvenience, if it even is an inconvenience.

If you fly for producing anything remotely creative (no-pun intended) with your DJI drone, swallow hard, save your pennies, and admit defeat. You just won’t find a better option. And one day – just one day – you may well think it’s worth every penny. Like me.

A great controller for the mavic 3, which it should have come with as standard to be fair (it does with the more expensive cine version). Bright screen, loads of buttons, wheels and programmable functions. Much less faffing than using a phone or tablet with the standard controller. Works with the air 2s and mini 3 pro currently. EXPENSIVE but worth it in my opinion if using drone a lot and want to be able to see screen when it’s sunny, warm and have more features.

I absolutely adore my RC Pro, I was a very reluctant buyer but I bit the bullet and bought it. I now cannot see myself using the standard RC anymore.
I also have the Mini 3 Pro and hate having to use the standard remote control with iPhone attached for it. The brightness is the best feature as well as being able to download apps like DJI Mimo to control my DJI Osmo Pocket. Minor downside is not having data like 4G but it’s really easy to tether to my iPhone for Maps. I’ve bought a screen protector, Lanyard and silicone skin for it all to protect my investment.

I should have got this when I purchased my Mavic 3. It is much more convenient than the stick controller and iPad Mini, plus it boots up and connects in a fraction of the time

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThere are 2 key reasons I bought this controller for my Mavic 3 – firstly I was suffering the well documented iPhone Dimming issue when flying in sunlight (although disabling charging, removing from case, and using a sun shade all helped, they never eliminated it), and secondly was the ability to control the gimbal tilt at the same time as zooming.

Recent Fly app updates make more use of the extra buttons and dials, which make it even better. You can now use the customisable buttons in conjunction with the right (only) scroll wheel to adjust other camera settings like aperture and EV.

The battery life is “good enough”, but less than the standard RC-N1 by some margin. I have 4 batteries for my Mavic 3, and the controller can easily outlast those 4.

The screen at max brightness isn’t as bright as the iPhone 13 Pro, but not far off.

Most things, like screen recordings and screenshots record to internal memory, even with an SD card in the slot, which may mean extra steps to get recordings off the device.

Its quite a heavy device, but I haven’t really noticed that to be a problem. Its well built, but might not survive a drop, and the screen is obviously vulnerable. Signal strength appears on a par, maybe even slightly better, than the RC-N1.

In standard new DJI style, no spare RC sticks are included, and they are different to most of the other DJI sticks.

I deliberated for weeks over buying it, due to the cost. It is definitely overpriced, and difficult to recommend because of the high price, but I’m glad I did get one.

Battery life could be a bit better but the screen quality and other features more than make up for that.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAt first I bought the Tripltek 8 pro but it was really too heavy for me. I knew the new controller, the RC Pro was released and was hoping it would be compatible with the Air 2s, but Amazon and DJI confirmed it wasn’t week after week, so bought the Tripltek. DJI then released a firmware update to allow the Air 2s to work with the DJI RC Pro. Since then, Ive been a happy bunny. Good size, great signal strength, you can use the original DJI Goggles via micro to mini HDMI cable, you have dials for gimbal and the other for zoom. The only negative points are, there are no spare joysticks and the price but nothing is cheap these days with shortage of parts etc. I would highly recommend. Also bought Glass screen protector and a pack of iPhone 12 anti glare screens which help quite well. It will soon be December 2022 and still very happy with this product. Now saving up for the Mavic 3 classic.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersFirstly, I think on the whole this is a great bit of kit if somewhat expensive. However, what really spoiled it for me, is the fact that it will not “speak” Bluetooth wise with any IOS device I have ! It is a pain in the arse to download footage to a device you can use for editing and sharing. Furthermore, it is an absolute nightmare to try and download any android apps, which is ridiculous as it is an android system!! The positive is that the screen is super bright and sharp. It works well with my Air 2s control wise, and you can be up and flying within a minute. Would’ve given it 5 stars if it worked with Apple products.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI’m coming to the RC Pro (and Air 2s) from the Mavic 2 Pro and Smart Controller which I’d flown for 2 years. I simply wanted a smaller aircraft, with the same imaging power and the RC Pro for a bit of future proofing.

First up, I didn’t notice a great deal of difference cosmetically between the SC and RC Pro. They are both outstanding designs in terms of ergonomics. Screens are very similar (both excellent in daylight), buttons and joysticks laid out identically. However you should note that the RC Pro is bigger in terms of having deeper handles. This makes for improved comfort, but the downside is that it will not fit in a case previously designed for the SC. This is a bit of a shame as cases for the RC Pro are quite short on the ground at the moment and I think its fair to say most users will want to protect it given the cost.

Next, the standard I/O ports (SD card, USB-C and HDMI) have been moved to the bottom of the RC Pro. This means I cannot re-use a great little bracket I’d picked for the SC which allowed a low profile lanyard connection. Instead I now have to attach a couple of lugs for lanyard support which undoubtedly means I’ll have to shop very carefully for a case to accommodate this. The main benefit of the SC and RC Pro is the ability to just ‘power on and fly’ as opposed to mucking about with phones and cables. Hopefully some 3rd party offerings will come along which address low profile lanyard attachment whilst being able to store in your regular case.

These niggles aside, it functions beautifully. I never had an issue with the old Smart Controller, it was an absolute joy to fly with and RC Pro is no different. It’s expensive, but oozes quality and does provide you with a degree of confidence. At the time of purchase, my RC Pro would not connect with the Air 2s. It requires a firmware upgrade from January 2022 to achieve this. Although it will attempt an OTA update itself, that January file is 1.3Gb(!) A much better strategy is to download the new ‘DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series)’ utility for you Mac or PC. This will recognise a connected RC Pro and prompt you to upgrade. Everything seems to be working as expected since. The RC Pro is snappier in terms of UI response, but ‘in the air’ both SC and RC Pro function pretty much the same.

Is it worth upgrading from the older Smart Controller? That depends on what you are flying. If you are perfectly happy with the range of aircraft supported by the Smart Controller then I’d say no, stick to where you are for a while yet. If you specifically intend to fly the Mavic 3, Air2s (and have the cash) then the RC Pro is worthwhile. Its a bit like owning a new iPhone though, shiny and new but by and large does the same job as the old one.

And finally, is it worth it over the standard RC1N? For me, yes. I don’t like using my phone as a monitor when in the field. I’d rather just power up and focus on having a safe flight. In saying that, I’m in a location where I can fly every day without bothering anyone. If your flights are only very occasional the RC Pro may be something you’d prefer to bypass in favour of a better drone and perfectly acceptable RC1N.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big, bold and beautiful

The DJI RC Pro for DJI Mavic 3/DJI Air 2S is great for these drone’s. It is well over priced compared to its predecessor.
