The lap counter trigger is mechanical, when a car pushes past a sprung tab in the track, which then causes the counter to count down. The problem is the springs are too strong. Unless the cars are going flat out, they’ll stop rather than trigger the counter. Ok on some track designs but not others.
Secondly, some of the metal rails aren’t perfect, and where they join other track pieces it can cause a ridge which either stops the cars dead or causes them to fly off. I tend to reverse the piece so the ridge becomes a step down.
