This latest version since poor reviews is great, reviews work. Me and my daughter love racing this M version (C1421M). She laughs as we collide and only she has mastered the full 360. The track will stay out throughout Christmas I do think the cars are at their best with this set with full throttle available, in order for them to drift as advertised and skip the crossover plastic sections. The cars have great detail and I think the set provides more interest than racing alone, drifting them requires careful throttle timing to be consistently good at driving them. The track benefits from being set up on a firm surface rather than carpet to maintain good track connections.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI grew up with Scalextric so I was curious to see how this would compare. There were quite a few similarities with one major difference: “Drift”. With drift, the pickup on the car is completely free to rotate which means the rear end of the car can slide right out or even all the way round until the car will start going the opposite direction (forward). I’m pleased to say that with a bit of practice you can get good at drifting the car round the bends which is incredibly satisfying.

Unfortunately, the good old disconnection where at points on the track the car loses power is not a thing of the past, but as always it takes a few laps for the cars to “warm up” the track, or I guess just scrape off a bit of what’s causing the lack of power and then its fine. (I’ve seen a lot of reviews complaining of this, yes it’s an issue, but no, it’s not a major issue as it does sort itself out. Do people have no patience or even search for a solution?)

I did find that one of the cars had a lot of vibration and was worried that the axel was bent but on very careful inspection (I didn’t notice it at first) I found that one of the tyres wasn’t seated quite right. Once that was sorted the car was absolutely fine. I’ve had a few crashes with the cars flying off the track and they’ve survived fine although I’m sure going off into something very hard isn’t going to end well.

Would I personally buy it? Yes, but I think the current price of 134.99 is pretty steep so I wouldn’t buy it for that. However if you think this is something you see yourself using a lot then it may be worth it.

Excellent Scalextric set that my children are enjoying as much as the one I had when I was their age. It’s a decent length, you can race the cars for quite a long time without everything overheating: recommended.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIf you had a similar Scaletrix set when you were a kid, you will e wowed by how far they have come since your kid days! It would be taken aback by the size straight away! I do not have a table big enough in the house, so mat away and on the floor it went! If you are lucky to have a play room, you can assemble its once and leave it as it is to play with the set when you feel like it! Parts of the actual track clip into a figure 8 and you are ready to race! The cars are not fidly, but rather heavy and robust! I must say, the best thing about this set is that it is OFF-SCREEN time which is almost as much fun as racing on the screen. My only concern is that with all the out of the box – clip it all in – play – put away and repeat and I am not sure if it is going to last for as long as we would love it to, if I just pack it into the original box that we have already ripped a but, so I have got a plastic box to keep the set in to ensure it does not get knocked more than it should and we can enjoy this set for much longer!
It would make a fantastic Christmas gift, that is for sure!

This SCALEXTRIC C1421M Slot Car Racing Set comes in a nice box, making it very much giftable. The set is well made, strong and appears to be of decent quality, and it is sturdy.

It’s big and requires a decent size room, also need flat solid surface otherwise the cars won’t run properly.
I place this on a dining table, and it works very well. The only issue is that I have to dismantle it when kids finish playing with it and reassemble it when they want to play(I am not sure how long the set will last by doing like this), but it doesn’t bother me too much as long as they away from the digital screen.

What I like about the cars is when they drift, they look unique and fun to watch. The vehicles are well made, well detailed and sturdy. My kids like to smash it with each other, and they enjoy it because they know the cars are crash-resistant.

The car moves on the eight(8) shape track very well; my little one finds it a bit challenging on top speed, flies off too often but my 14 years is very good at controlling the speed via squeezing the trigger. Require a little bit of practice using the controller.

Overall, I don’t have anything wrong to say about this as it seems excellent quality. The set seems perfect for the price; the only recommendation would be, the design able to change the various track figures, not only 8.

I hope this review helps you to make a purchasing decision.

It has been such a joyful experience setting this racing set up and playing with it. First of all, this racing set is suitable for adults and kids alike, and the perfect experience would be with a combination of adults and little ones.

This set includes 2 Cars: The Ford Mustang GT4s; 2 hand controllers, 1 Drift Half Straight Powerbase, and 1 transformer. Setting everything up doesn’t take much time and it is pretty self-explanatory to match pieces together.

We noticed that the cars may not race or drift properly if the racing area is not placed on a solid and flat surface. We tried this first on a thick carpet and we experienced a lot of issues. On flat surfaces, though, the performance got noticeably better.

While racing/drifting, the cars may deviate from their assigned path. I noticed this got less and less as we learner how to manage them. However, even car crashes added to the fun.

It is needless to mention that cars are very sturdy and well-designed. Apart from their aesthetic look which is amazing (we use them as decoration when not in use), they can withstand falls and hits which adds to their durability.

I wish the 8 shaped racing area could be adjusted for other shapes. 4 Stars for a very fun set and a n enjoyable racing experience.

This arrived in a colourful branded box with a window in the front showing the cars, and on the reverse there is a full breakdown on the pack specifications and capabilities along with track and car details. The box has a carry handle and opens at the handle end folding upwards to reveal the contents.

First impressions: once opened everything is extremely well packed and protected with the cars having a small turn screw system to hold them in place and avoid any transit damage. The manual is nice and clear walking you through the setup along with detailing precautions and care you need to be aware of for use. I had Scalextric as a child and apart from a few tweaks to the design, how the track clips together, and power, controller fittings everything is pretty much the same, this in my opinion is not a negative as it is a tried and tested design style that has worked well for decades.

After reading through the manual I set everything up, construction of the track is very straight forward and I had it all clipped together and ready to go in no time at all. My children have been playing with this since it arrived and loving it, the drift system works great and the cars hold the track really well only spinning off at top speed at the turns if you give it too much.

The pack comes with four spare brushes which are fairly easy to clip in and out when they need changing, as children we used to repair our own and I am sure you could do the same with these when needed. The cars seem very robust and have crashed into each other masses of times since I set it up with no signs of damage or stress. The track is a basic figure of eight but can be added to if needed along with the addition of a race track app feature. It does suffer from connection issues to the track now and again and you need to move/adjust the car to get it going again, this is something I remember from when I was a child and as long as the car is moving it keeps moving.

Overall I thought this a nice introduction pack and really liked the drift feature which worked really well, the cars are very robust and can go through multiple incidents without damage, the handsets are very basic and light but work in exactly the same way they always have, I like that you get four spare brush sets and they are easy to replace or repair. For me the best part about it is the children love it and have had hours of fun and laughter playing with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great racing fun, the children love i

Although I have to say, the fun is in the building, it soon gets boring while playing, but that’s the thing with these kinds of toys, it’s all about the having, the building, and I guess the brief time playing before you have to disassemble it again.
Scalextric doesn’t seem to have changed that much since I was a kid. It’s easier to assemble now I think, and there’s lights in them now too! They seem to stay on the track better but, you can of course manage. It’s still in how hard you squeeze the trigger.
Needs quite a lot of room to play and set up.
Basically if you had this as a kid then it’s the same toy, pretty much!

This is the first racing track set I’ve had since a kid. They have come a long way since the 90s. The track is huge. You’ll need a big space. We had to clear the coffee table away and rug. Setting it up wasn’t too hard. The track clips together into a figure of 8. The cars are well made. They light up and they are crash resistant as that’s the point of this track. I love that these days they don’t fly off the end anymore. They keep to the track and they go so fast its unbelievable. We have a cat and it sent mitzi the cat wild it was hilarious watching her Chase the cars. The set is great. It is expandable by buying more track too. Its a great solid perfomer and works great. My son loved racing eith me. It made me feel like a kid again. Very pleased with this set.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWe had Scalextric decades ago when my boys were little and I remember good and bad things.
Not ideal on carpet – too much give underneath and fibres and static electricity – so needs a hard surface.
Takes up a lot of space but is desirable to have a permanent set up.
Cars fly off too easily- top speed too fast. Always wanting more accessories
Then the fun of racing and getting to use the controller with skill and we used to do timed laps.
This set lacks straights and it is desirable to add some (allow for the extra space needed). We used to like banking the bends to decrease the g-force taking cars off the track.
It’s a fine judgement line on get the tail to kick out and losing the car off the track. The little ones in the family crash a lot but the adults are having more fun.
Assembling the track is not difficult or complex. I used to clean the tracks with methylated spirit on a cloth – it smells for a while but it does remove grime and evaporates dry.
I wonder if the technicians could design a control with power settings, low, medium, high, so it is not all down to trigger pressure.
